My parents are probably going to get one of my cat's kittens but they have always declawed their cats, I remember them saying that if they are going to have a cat, it needs declawed, they think it's necessary, normal and ok. It's what I grew up with so it's a new thing for me to feel so against declaring my cat, and they think I'm crazy for not doing it and will regret it.
Well they seemed pretty surprised that my cat exclusively uses her scratcher (I have a cardboard one that she loves.) I never had to teach her or anything, she just knew what to do, I'm so impressed! I also trim her nails.

I really want my cat's kittens to know how to use a scratching post, do I need to teach them this or does mom teach them? Should I get them each their own scratcher? Also when can I start trimming kitten's claws? I just want them to be used to it. I want to give my parents no reason to declaw.

Hi karagraaf!

Congratulations with the new kittens coming! I hope you find wonderful homes for them all. I am also so happy for your decision to not declaw your cat! My parents thought it was a routine procedure, as well, and were shocked to learn of how hurtful it can be! I always try and tell people to view declawing as an ultimate last resort, and I am so happy you feel the same!

The kittens will most likely see mom using her post and will follow suit, but it's always a good idea to have multiple scratching surfaces (vertical posts, horizontal mats, the more the merrier!

Since mom only uses her scratcher, hopefully they will use posts exclusively, as well, but if you see a kitten scratching something you don't want them to scratch, just pick them up and put them back near the acceptable surface. They should figure it out!

As for your second question, it's a good idea to get them used to nail clippings early.  A good age to start is around 4-6 weeks, in my opinion, though others may recommend earlier or later. I also highly suggest that you get the kittens accustomed to having their paws and nails handled before trying any actual clippings. I've also heard that a baby nail trimmer is easier to use with young kittens.

Hope this helps! Good luck and keep us posted!
