Chipper was 2+ years old when he first arrived here in Feb. 2007 as a wary stray. His whiskers have always been all black, except for one single white whisker. Within the last year or so most of his whiskers have changed color! The majority are now white. At the very most he is 11 years old, but I think more likely he is about 9. He is a black cat with some white on chest & belly. There are some white hairs starting to show in his fur, as happens to black cats as they get older, but not a lot. Has anyone else ever had a cat whose whiskers changed color? Maybe it's age related, like graying?

Sounds interesting. Do you have pictures showing his one white whisker and his whiskers now?

It could be due to age.
I have 2 orange tabby males whose newly grown whiskers are black...they change to white after a week or two...then they fall out and new ones grow back in.

One of my black cats whiskers are doing the same thing.

Luvbug was 4 when he joined the family as a starved stray. He's a solid black with no other white in his coat. Over the last 9 years (he's 13 years this year) half of his whiskerss are now gray/white. (He does have asthma and a heart murmur but the whiskeres changing started before the diagnosis).

Could be age but whatever the reason it makes him look more dignified as he enjoys his life.

Luvbug sure is a handsome fellow. Here's Chipper modeling his whiskers.

2008 - one white whisker (upper right)          2013 - almost all white whiskers, a lot of the small whiskers are still black

I think it is a normal process of ageing. Cats often will change color as they age. I had a long hair black and grey tabby cat who's fur changed to a copper color more and more as she aged. Don't worry about it, your cat looks healthy. :)

This is one of my kittens at this moment. Little girl has white whiskers ... it's adorable but I'm worried if she's healthy. She seems ok but ...

P.S. I dont know how to rotate this picture ... sorry.

When Charlie first came to me as a kitten, he had black whiskers. Within a few months, one had turned white and stayed like that for a while. Now it's black again :dunno:
