Evolving Story Game

But he was mistaken. It was Pandora with her beautiful green eyes lit up by the moon. Cupid ran to her breathing fast. 'I've been so scared' cupid said to Pandora. 'I was alone when I woke up and I thought I was back in the big place all alone' he meowed. 'Do you mean outside' meowed Pandora back. 'Well don't worry. Your safe now'. Pandora went to sit on the sofa and Cupid scrambled up after her. 'Where's that lady' he meowed. 'You mean peachy? She's just gone to visit s friend. She won't be long' meowed Pandora and at that moment peachy came in. She closed and locked the door and closed the curtains. 'Oh my' she said. 'It's a cold night to night. Lucky Pandora found you' and she went to light the fire making sure to put the fire guard round it. 'I bet you two are hungry' she commented looking at them. 'Come on. Let's get some food for all of us' and into the kitchen she went with the two cats following her. She washed and dried the plates and then dished their food out and put two bowls of water out and then went to the fridge to get some eggs out for her supper. When they'd all finished and the kitchen was cleaned Peachy went back into the sitting room and switched on the TV. When it came on Cupid ran behind the sofa in fright. Then he slowly peeped out and saw Peachy and Pandora sitting watching the strange box. Cupid went closer and started to look at all the movements. He was amazed. He went tosit down in his bed to watch but then he yawned a great yawn, his little pink tongue curved like a spoon, curled up and went to sleep in the warm glow of a full tummy, a safe place and the warm light of the fire.

Peachy looked down at Pandora, sitting close to Cupid's box making sure he was safe, and thought what a wonderful thing she had done that day when Pandora had found her doorstep and she had taken her in to her heart.  She thought back to how alone she had felt before Pandora had warmed up her lap when she sat in the chair, or when she sat eating her meals all alone rather than with Pandora lapping at her food on the floor at her side.  This wonderful cat had now adopted Cupid and although she worried about how she would cope with the the energy needed to care for a young kitten and keep two cats well fed and healthy her life felt full of purpose and love for the first time in many years.  Peachy turned her eyes back to the flickering television briefly but her mind was on the two gentle creatures curled up neatly on the floor. Now what would she do tomorrow she wondered............. 

Peachy decided to go to bed and sleep on it. Quite often a solution would suddenly appear either during her sleep or when she woke up. She made sure the fire was low and the guard in place and slowly climbed the stairs to her bedroom. She ran warm water into the bath and put some relaxing salts in it. After preparing for the bath she climbed carefully in and sank back into the comforting scented warm water. So good to relax peachy thought to herself. It's been quite an exiting day. Peachy washed herself and climbed out of the bath. Finished all she had to do and slipped into bed with a little sigh. It didn't take long for her to fall asleep.
In the morning she woke to brilliant sunshine gleaming off the pure white snow. After washing and dressing she went downstairs and lit the boiler to warm up the water and the house. Pandora and Cupid were sitting together looking at the door expectantly when peachy walked into the room. Cupid scampered towards her with a little chirp and Pandora followed letting Cupid have the first cuddle. Peachy then opened the front door for Pandora to go out. Cupid stood with an unhappy look on his face and turned to look up at peachy. Don't worry Cupid peachy said. You won't be going outside for another few weeks and Pandora will be back for her breakfast. Peachy picked cupid up and placed him in the litter box to remind him why it was there. Then peachy went into the kitchen and put the kettle on to boil. She took down the two plates and took the food our of the fridge. After she had put the cats food on the plates she warmed the food in the microwave. Then she went and called Pandora who came running in eager for her breakfast. Peachy put their plates on their mat and the two cats put their heads down and started to eat. Pandora then made herself some toast and tea. They all ate comfortably together in the warm kitchen. Peachy refreshed their water and washed up the breakfast things and put down some dry food in case they wanted some. Cupid looked at it curiously and went to smell it. Mmmm he thought. Nice smell. I wonder what it is. He ate some and found it very crunchy. He noticed that Pandora wasn't eating so he left it.
Peachy tidied up the sitting room and found some toys she'd put away when Pandora didn't want to play with them. Oh what fun cupid had batting balls and little mice around the room. Pandora seemed to find her kitten hood again and they both played wildly and made peachy laugh. She decided that today would just be a day for the 3 of them to relax together and play and just enjoy the day. She sat back in her armchair and smiled at the 2 excited cats.

It was only a few days in to November and the first snow fall of the year left Peachy feeling cold. She wished she could run around and play like her little cats to keep warm.  She pulled an old woollen blanket out of the cupboard next to her chair and folded dit over her aching knees.  Pandora was busy jumping around patting the toys away from Cupid so he had to chase after them and practice his pouncing. The little kitten would run and jump and roll over his head as he tried to learn how to stop quickly but didn't quite make it.  Every time he rolled over he'd look over at Peachy and she would try to hide her laughter.  It was the first time she had seen Pandora play so much, as she tried to teach Cupid his essential cat skills.  Pandora's long thick fur seemed to move in the oposite direction to her body and sometimes Cupid would catch up with her tail which was so bushy he would almost disappear in to it.  Cupid's little paws would fight their way out of the mass of fur and he would race off on his own again trying to catch up with the ball.  At one point he jumped up on to Pandora's back and the pair of them rolled over in to a belly to belly wrestling match.  Cupid looked so tiny Peachy worried that Pandora might hurt him but the adult cat was so careful and tollerant of her new kitten's games and it ended up with Cupd flattened underneath Pandora with his face and throat being licked so hard his head bobbed back and forth like his head might fall off.  'What a fine way to spend a day'Pachy thought'.

Cupid wriggled out from under Pandora's mass of black fur and shook his head so hard he almost fell over, then looked over to the food bowls.  It had been a good game but he was so hungry.  The biscuits were still ther.  He looked at Pandora but she wasn't giving him any clues about what to do.  He decided that he was going to have to try one of the crunchy things Peachy had put out after they had finished their breakfast.  He padded across to his bowl and looked in at the funny little brown pellets.  They smelt good but looked so boring.  'That's it'  he thought,  I'll just have to play with them for a bit tosoften them up and make them more fun to eat.  He pawed one of of the bowl, sniffed at it breifly, and batted it away across the floor to chase after it.  As he ran after it he lost sight of it for a second as it went under Peachy's chair, and the next thing he knew it had gone.  Pandora was sitting on the other side of the chair, and she was licking her lips.......  

'Oh' thought cupid. 'They aren't toys. I'm supposed to eat them' and he ran back to his plate to taste one. They were so good he almost forgot to stop eating even though he was full up. Then Pandora called him meuww?' she said and cupid went running off to carry on playing. He'd never been so happy in his short little life. 'Well' thought peachy 'I mustn't just sit here. Things to do places to go'. She laughed to herself. 'Things to do and places to go. Silly old woman' she said to herself. Peachy stood up and the two cats stopped playing to look at her questioningly. 'Don't worry my pets. I'm not going anywhere' she told them. They started to play again. Peachy went upstairs to see that everything was in its place. 'I must change the sheets on my bed tomorrow and give a little hoover up here as well. The bathroom needs cleaning as well. Maybe I'll ask Mrs. Lilac next door if her granddaughter come in to help me a couple of times a month or even once a week. I'm really getting too old to keep the house as clean as I like it' she told herself and was pleased with her decision. 'I'll talk to her tomorrow'. Peachy went downstairs again and found the two cats fast asleep together.

She moved her chair a little closer to the warmth of the heater and sat down carefully, wrapping her rug over her knees again.  Pandora and Cupid had finished their playing and had eaten their fill of biscuits.  Each of their little faces was dotted with crumbs as they slept.  They stirred as she came in to the room and padded across the floor towards her.  Cupid almost running to keep up with Pandora's long, elegant strides.  

Pandora stretched out her body and her limbs as she reached Peachy's armchair, and gave a quiet exhalation of air, not quite a purr but not a miaow.  Cupid was watching her intently and with his eyes firmly fixed on his new mentor he stretched out his tiny body in an attempt to copy Pandora.  He let out a little squeek which gave him a fright and he gathered his legs back in to his body and looked around him as if to suggest that the squeek hadn't come from him.  He could see Peachy smile,and then she patted her lap with her hand and rested her head back in to the chair.  Pandora lifted her paws up to the old woman's lap and carefully stepped up, padding around  and kneeding the blanket for a few minutes before she finally settled on the spot she wished to curl up on.  Cupid waited patiently until he was sure Pandora was leaving enough room for him to join her, and made his way up the blanket by using his sharp kitten claws to keep him from falling down.  The lap was warm, and Pandora's fur was soft.  He wriggled his way in to the big black cat's long belly fur and nuzzled in to her warm skin with his nose.  He couldn't remember ever feeling this happy.

The three of them looked at each other, Peachy's hands resting on each of the cats' soft warm bodies, and it was as if they were all breathing together, content and relaxed.   Peachy looked down at her young fur family and felt happy for the first time in many years.  She knew her purpose here was to care for these creatures, and this brought warmth back in to her heart.  Yes, she thought, she would call her neighbours tomorrow, but for today she would enjoy the peace and tranquility of her new found life.   They sat, curled up together, breathing slowly and drifting in to blissful dreams of a safe and happy home full of love and warmthwhile the the crisp white snow outside gave a beautiful bright light to the world around them.

I enjoyed it too! It was great reading what everyone wrote!!! I wanted to chime in more but got busy! I guess that is the purpose of having an evolving story. And a feel-good one too!! We rarely get to bask in wonderful nice outcomes :-) :-)
