I took in a female kitty yesterday after she had been coming around more and more from outside for about two weeks. Well, we have two small dogs and a 90 lb dog and she's been snuggling them and is very sweet and our other kitty is hissing at her but she just ignores it basically. I'm not really worried about cat fights although we do keep a good watch.. She has been eating ridiculous amounts of food. Like three times as much as our other little girl kitty. And when she's sitting at her food bowl her sides are pretty bulgy. She just seems sooo comfortable to be in a strange house. She loves on everything and it's strange to see a cat loving on dogs and boxes. I try to let her out and she doesn't want to go so I don't think she's in heat. So I think she is probably pregnant. Any advice on how to know for sure?

She's been outside, it's safe to assume she is pregnant.  Personally I would get her spayed ASAP unless I could actually feel kittens moving.

Also, her so energetic trying to please herself in may too be seen as an indicium.  She knows she needs help soon.

Spaying is medically speaking still possible if you dont feel the kittens move yet - although I suppose you wont do it, most dont.   I myself would hesitate, if I werent in a desperate situation, as she is prob quite late in the pregnancy.

What Im a little bothered about, is it seems you didnt had any quarantine time.  Most strays do have some worms and parasites, even if they themselves are healthy.  So my usual recommendation is to isolate them at least till you are sure the dewormers and defleasers has worked.

Although, they had already meet...  So now it is just to hope for the very best.

But do talk with your vet (having several animals you surely do have your vet).  Let her advice you for suitable deparasiters. Preferably make also a check up.

Tx for caring!

Continue to report and ask!

Good luck!

We've already found good homes if she has kittens and I know I should've quarantined them but it didn't happen that way but I've checked to make sure and gave our other animals meds and getting preggers into the vet soon to get it all taken care of thanks for the advice.

Are there any special things about stray cat pregnancies I should be aware of?

Nay, not really.  She is prob more or less malnourihshed, so good nourishement from now is double so important.

And she is not dewormed - a home girl would perhaps be dewormed.

She may have fleas, mites...  As said.

Lets hope she is healthy otherwise.

Many rescued strays are more or less semiferale, but she being SO  friendly surely is no semiferale. Most probably gone astray or got dumped.

the only real difference is, if she were weak or dumb, she would perish.  So you can count she has healing meat above average.

Good luck!

Okay there has been several families move out of the subdivision so I kinda thought she may have been dumped and I checked her for fleas before I brought her in and she was good are flea collars okay for pregnant cats?

Flea collars are not safe for any cats. If you haven't seen any fleas, I would not use a flea product. If you do need a flea treatment, please get a safe and effective one from the vet, not one that is over the counter. The OTC products are known to cause problems, even death.

Oh okay I had never heard that but we don't use flea collars all our animals are on the pill I was just trying to think of a quick safe fix for the kitty just in case she has flea eggs. But she is away from all the other animals now in my room for a peaceful birth (: she is sooo sweet I love her so much already

Flea eggs drop of the cat which is why bringing fleas into your house can cause such havoc - the eggs can lurk for a long time in the carpets, nooks & crannies.  If you conbed her with a flea comb out over white paper and there was no sign of fleas or flea dirt you are good to go.  If you dampen flea dirt it will stain the water pink, hence the white paper - it lest you see the pink.

The cats need worming, so will the kittens.  There are products that are both effective and safe for pregnant / lactating cats.  The NOAH compendium has all the data sheets so you can check.  I gather the wormer of choice for most of us in the UK (Milbemax) is unfortunately not available in the US which is where I presume you are.

Okay thank you very much. Her belly sure is getting big (: the vet said she wasn't real sure about how many but that there was probably five babies (: I am very excited and am doing everything I can to make her life and pregnancy run smoothly oh the vet said it's probably be about a week when she has them. And that the longer she is with me eating the bigger her belly will get cuz she was malnourished. Hopefully all the kittens are healthy but who knows. I have been feeding her around month since she was outside til I brought her in so my fingers are crossed that it all turns out good oh I have been researching what to do with your pregnant cat and it said its good to give them wet food I have tried different kinds and she won't eat it. Is there any reason or do you think she just doesn't like it? Seems strange for a stray to be picky lol oh I read about giving eggs in dry food as well is that safe?what if she doesn't eat it in time? How long til it would spoil? I'm just worried I know cats have babies without help in nature I just want her to be okay and her babies to be okay
