Keep adding some warm water, mix it up with the food into a "cat food stew".    see if she will get more food in her. by "drinking it".

Also check to see if she is dehydrated. (just in case that could be why she is more into drinking  than eating)    1. try taking a pinch of skin on her back , pull up away from body, and let go.  It should snap back immediately, in a split second.   If it is taking longer than a second  that is a sign of dehydration.    If it takes longer than 2 seconds  she may need to be given fluids and electrolytes with a needle.

2.  feel her gums.  they should feel slick.  if they feel "tacky'/ sticky ,  that is a sign of dehydration.

If she does not eat enough,  for whatever reason,  she could get liver damage.  So if she is eating less than half her normal amount  i would start  trying to syringe feed.

Good to hear you will be taking her to a vet either Monday or on the weekend.  Hopefully whatever it is you can get it figured out soon.

If the local vets  don't find it out and she keeps having the symptoms,  I really would think about seeing one of those specialists I linked.    but hopefully the vet you're seeing will find the diagnosis and correct treatment.

Darn .     I wish that might have got her to get some more food in her.     I think I would see if you can pick up a large syringe  with the larger size opening.   and get pate style cat food high calorie,   like Wellness Chicken or Turkey ,  the basic Wellness.      mix a little warm water in with the food,   take the plunger out of syringe and stuff it in there  through that end. then reinsert plunger pushing the food alll the way down.  then try to give to her .  try to manage to give at least 4 ounces of the canned food per day.

Once a cat stops eating for too long  or eats significantly less than normal ,   no matter what the original reason was,  it can take on a life of its own;   the cat can get hepatic lipidosis  (fatty liver disease)  which even makes them want to eat less!   but if they dont eat it will kill them.   the body gets too acidic.

You can also try giving   meat baby food, Gerber's number 1.    It's not a complete balanced diet so you cant feed it long term but sometimes it will tempt a cat to eat.

But the good news was that at least the skin did snap back  in under a second.

Try offering food more often, like every 2 hours to see if she'll eat it.  Add some warm water to it or warm it in the microwave.

Oh dear. Are you monitoring how much she's eating over the day and making sure her fluids are still OK?  Also, could you try topping up with syringe feeding if you feel it's not enough, just until you can get her to the vet?

In human terms anorexia simply means loss of appetite for food and then there are any number of medical causes for it. I guess it is the same for cats: the issue is trying to find out what is causing Misty's loss of appetite.

I agree it is very dangerous for cats if they do not consume enough calories as they can develop fatty liver disease very quickly. If she is not eating enough of her regular food try treats or meat baby food (no garlic or onion). If she is still not eating enough I agree to supplement with syringe feeding and here is a great thread on how to do it (http://www.thecatsite.com/t/227858/syringe-feeding-lucky-video-if-your-cat-is-not-eating).

I cannot recommend enough getting cerenia for nausea and cyproheptadine for an appetite stimulant.

Are you going to see a vet in Canada this time? I hear the vets are better and cheaper in the states. I personally am not pleased with the level of vet care I have received in Canada (not to mention the insane prices). Hopefully you found a good vet on the Canadian side of the Sault. I hear vets are better outside of Toronto and actually I have started taking mine outside of the city.

I'm so sorry to hear your cat isn't doing well - my own little boy, Ares, wouldn't eat on his own for almost 3 weeks when I first had him due to all the illnesses he had. I ended up having to syringe feed him 3-4 times a day. It wasn't fine, for either of us, but it's what needed to be done. If you think that she may struggle during the feeding, I would wrap her up in a towel or blanket to restrain her before trying to feed. My kitten worked best when we held him on his back like a baby then tilted his head up to feed.

Good luck, and I truly hope you figure out whats up with your baby!

Hi Ares! Glad your kitty is doing better and you were able to syringe feed him. I would be wary of recommending others syringe feeding a cat on their back because it could be chocking hazard especially if the cat starts to struggle. Glad your guy would tilt his head up and not struggle but some might so I just wanted to point out that it may be dangerous for some cats to be fed like this.

The towel recommendation is great and that is how I syringe fed my cat as well.

I just found a soft poo in the litter box with blood on the side of it. No blood inside of it. I don't know if it was her though...

Would she freak out if she was isolated so you could monitor the litter box?  That might be something to consider.

How long is it till your vet appointment?  If they can't be persuaded to use separate boxes, or if you're worried about introducing change just now, is there any way you can keep an eye on who's going when? At least then you should be able to check who's had the problem if the blood recurs. It's hard if no one's in but at least it's a weekend.  That's what I had to do with my previous pair as they refused to use separate anything despite not liking each other in their later years.

I work weekends- im at work right now lol. I don't have a second litter box or a separate room because I have foster kittens staying with me right now. I have a dog cage I could stick diago in- he loves it in there. My guys are cool with me moving their litter boxes and change litter types and they don't even care if the other cat is not there. Ill have to go after work and buy another litter box and put Diago in the dog crate I guess. I think it was Diagos poo honestly because 1- there was only one poo in 24 hours and he was eating normal amounts of food and they both poo once a day normally. 2- it was a large Poo and(sorry for details) there was like two 'rabbit poo' balls and then the big soft poo with blood.. it was in the same spot but its possible they both went in the same spot. The day before there was only 1 poo in 24 hours also.. previous to that was normal.

Would bringing in an 'unknown' poo (with blood) be of any use when I go into the vet? though I am going to try and separate them.

Another question. Misty ate the rest of the 5 ounce can(forgot to mention it was tuna pumpkin with real pumpkin) from yesterday (wasn't much left) and then about 1/3 of a 3ounce can that she had previous not wanted to eat. in one sitting for just breakfast, I left dry out just in case and ill give her two or three meals tonight.. so this may end up being unnecessary but if I use the syringe(I have one from deworming a long time ago that was not used) can I just squirt it into the front of her mouth? I don't think she would spit it out.. I think she would act annoyed but swallow it.

I'm glad Misty's eaten a bit more and shown interest in food this morning. I hope there are signs of a better day when you get in from work. As you say, hopefully not necessary but Franksmom posted a link to a video on syringe feeding earlier in your thread - I've never had to do it so not sure if it's OK to try feeding to the middle of the mouth, generally I think it's just more likely the cat will accept it if it's put in to the side. I'm not the best person to help you here given my total lack of experience in the task!

If Diago likes being in his cage then at least that's one possibility for getting clarity if there's any more poop evidence. I don't THINK the vet would have a lot of use for the poop if you're not sure whose it is, and also if it isn't pretty fresh /stored however it should be stored?  You could give the vet a call before you go to ask if you haven't managed to isolate the two of them.

Cats do like to keep us on our toes: I'll be on the phone to Mouse's vet tomorrow but at least if I need to take him in the surgery's only about 15 minutes in the car.

Thankyou for the link.. I just watched the video and it looks simple enough.. and would be with Diago.. Misty is...erm.. "Iffy". She panicks easily and has no limits when it comes to needing to escape.. it takes two people to put revolution on her.. and she makes that very hard. If I could use something (I don't have one of those bags) to hold her like that she would scream her head off but it would be manageable.. the towel I think she would squirm out of. Also because they normally eat wet and dry and share food (they switch bowls often when im not looking and such.. so I really don't know how much she normally eats. She is 7lb and id say 8lb ideally. I have wellness 13 oz cans, friskies pate 13oz(she hasnt tried this yet, but im going to see if I can get her eating junky food tonight.) and I also got a can of whiskas pate .. something I thought id never feed my cats but she can eat any cat food she likes so long as it doesn't have grain atm.
