I've always said that Sylvestra is a Siamese in a Tuxedo. She's built like a Siamese cat, long and slinky, has a Siamese coat (except for the coloring), and has a Siamese attitude - very dependent, very sweet and loving, and very LOUD. She's always been that way, but over the years it's gotten worse, and I believe I've been unknowingly reinforcing it, petting her when she meows.
She's gotten to the point where she meows A LOT. She's 9 1/2 years old and in perfect health.
I did a search for old posts about this, and they say to not pay attention to her when she's meowing, to pet her and give her attention when she's being quiet. I'd like to get a little more specific - if she's been meowing, how long do I need to wait after she stops to pay attention to her so she won't associate it in her mind with the meowing? She meows so much now that it's tough to catch the quiet spells.
Have any of you had this problem and managed to improve the behavior?
She's very sweet and affectionate,
and she's a wonderful cat, except for the constant MEOWing. I feel bad withholding attention.
