I am heartbroken. My kids were playing with our 3 week old kitten and something must have happened. When they found her she had a bit of blood coming from her nose and hasn't been responding very well. She is still breathing and responds to touch but doesn't move or nurse on her mommy or anything. I don't know what to do. The vet said she must have gotten stepped on or dropped and won't make it. We live in a small community and not another vet close. Is there anything I can do?!!

Keep her warm and comfortable, this is about the only one can do being an amateur.

Sometimes it is enough.

If she drinks or can be forcefeed salted water / watered down  kmr, do so.   Se it is only a little at a time, to not risk reflux and inhaling into lungs.

You know on tummy, head up.

If the vet believes she wont make it, he means you do have two possibilities: wait for the end, or quicken it in some suitable way.

Of course waiting as skissed above, leaves open some chances she will make it anyway.

Good luck!

This little kitty was in a litter of 5 born very prematurely 3 weeks ago. My heart is heavy. She weighed 48 grams at birth and I fed KMR and kept it warm helped it suckle on momma. She was the only one who made it. My daughter feels horrible and that's why I told them to please please keep her with her mommy. I pray some miracle happens and she makes it. Thank you!

48 grammes and surviving is a record, afaik.  Our other "almost surviving" record is a 49 grammes.  It is a great extra pity this happened.

Although this her being way to preemie leaves open the possibility it wasnt at all the kids who stepped on / something happened.  It may be her herself something inside gave away.  Such is very common with miniature cats and preemies who did managed some time.

So just hoping and praying.  If her mom is caring for her, proceed.  Otherwise a nice place is in at the caretakers chest, hearing the heart and feeling the body warm.

Good luck!

She is still alive. Sable her mommy knows something is wrong. She keeps trying to move her. The kitten meows and meows but cannot move :( she doesn't suck on the syringe and she can't hold her head. I feel horrible that this is all happening. This whole thing is hard on me it started when Sable birthed 2 kittens on Friday the 19th of July. She had kitten out of the house a few months before hand and I just knew she came back pregnant. We babied her and fed her extra food. She grew and grew and grew. She was a good mom the whole time she let me be in the box with her when she started laboring.
I videotaped one of them coming out. It was so special. The first 2 were small and by the next morning 12 hours later I knew she still had kittens in there. I called the vet she said to let her go until mid afternoon and if nothing had happened to bring her out. At 4:30 that afternoon I brought her out there. The vet did an ultrasound and she saw 3 possibly 4 more one with no heartbeat. She have me options. 1. Give her oxytocin and see if she starts to labor again 2. Don't do anything and see if she labors on her own 3. C-section. After a long hard discussion with my husband and children we decided c-section. 3 more kitties small and helpless came into the world. I had already lost the first 2 (I think she suffocated them) so I was determined to make the other 3 big healthy kitties. She sent is home with KMR and my journey began. A few days later the 3rd died and shortly after the 4th leaving me the kitty we call "lucky" because she was lucky to be alive. She was born with no heartbeat and the vets daughter brought her back! Day 6 Sables Milk came in and she was able to keep baby kitty without KMR allllll day! 24 hours later the kitty gained and was now 78 grams!!! I was so happy. I stopped weighing her a few days later. Last time I weighed her she was 134 grams. That was 2 weeks ago. I don't know what to do. Maybe she is just suffering :( I prayed and prayed that this morning I would wake up and she would be nursing and crawling around. Such a horrible situation. Sable knows something is wrong and there is nothing I can do :(

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I too have a young child. As much as I try to keep her off of little Nermal, if I leave the room for so much as a minute she will go and try to take him out to "play". I explain over and over that he is too little for that kind of play, but she just can't seem to resist. It is hard. Nermal is only 320 grams but is at least 7 weeks old! He has had his ups and downs, we were sure he was gone for on more than one occasion. I know how you feel. Keep her on your chest, if you have a heating pad you can lay atop her on the otherwise that seems to be comforting. You could try rubbing a little karo syrup on her gums to keep he blood sugar up. If nothing else, just for the comfort both things may give her. I'm so sorry your kitten is in such a bad way.

Yes.  if you dont have white karo syrup, honey is also useable, or even common sugar. (wet it a little)

Dextrose sugar is best, but the others works too.

Good luck!

She was up 7 grams tonight. She licks the nipple but doesn't suck I drop it in there. I don't know if she is getting enough KMR. She is peeing fine when Sable licks her I haven't seen a poop but sable cares for her other than when I try to bottle feed her. When will Sable lose her milk? I am concerned with this because just in case the kitty would be ok can she nurse on her mom and how long? This has been 36 hours now without this kitty nursing. She is meowing and she does shake her head while she lies on her back. But no movement meaning no crawling no sucking no lifting her head. Any ideas?!? Thanks everyone for the support. Sorry I am so full or questions. I don't really know what to do I keep her warm with hot bottles covered in tags and Sable is a good mom caring for her. The kitty meows and meows and Sable gets anxious and licks her. While I am trying to feed she is there to clean her up as fast as she can. If there is anything else I should be doing please please let me know. I don't want this kitten to suffer but I am not really sure what is going on. It's almost like she dislocated something. Her eyes open when we talk to her and she meows just no movement. I really want to get her to momma as soon as I can but not sure how to do that since she won't suckle or hold her head. Thanks in advance everyone!

I am sorry this is happening.

The only thing I can think of to help the others have already suggested. The karo can really help give them an energy boost. Rub some on her gums and then try to feed her. If she is not suckling you can feed her with a dropper or syringe, just do it carefully drop by drop and let her swallow each one.

If she won't suckle, get a syringe-like medicine dropper, like you would use to give medicine to an infant. You can get one from a pharmicist or vet for free usually. Then you can just drip tiny bits into the corner of her mouth. You can stroke her throat gently to encourage her to swallow.

Sorry I am so full or questions.
The problem is we dont have good answers, and several of our most experienced forumists arent here either.  YOU shall of course ask and bother.

So she is gaining? Very good!  It must mean also, she does gets something inside, even if the suckling is very weak or none.

Im praying for her and for you.

Good luck!

If Sable can hear her kitten crying she will keep producing milk, even if the little one doesn't suckle. Is Sable licking herself to get rid of excess milk? Keep an eye on Sable, if her nipples seem sore and red she may need help expressing the extra milk. There is a condition called mastitis that female cats get if their nipples get clogged. In the early stages you can help by gently massaging the area, but if it seems really painful or swollen you should get the vet to take a look at her.

Good luck with the little one. I don't know what else to suggest, apart from what others have already recommended.

Fingers crossed that they'll both be OK.
