FVRCP Booster Needed?

Growing up my family had a dog that had a very bad reaction to her shots.  Now for both my labs I get titer testing instead of just asking for whatever yearly vaccinations are on the schedule.  I am very much so on the side that over vaccinations are more of a threat then a help (Not here to debate that, just wanted to state my stance).

Now, I got my 5 month old kitten from the Humane Society and through the course of several weeks he had a slew of vaccinations.  On the vac sheet I was given for him his next shot is due this week and it's a booster for FVRCP.  He is strictly an indoor cat and has been ever since the Humane Society had him and will continue to be with me.

I will admit, I am a new cat person (which is why I come here for some great advice).  So, is this FVRCP really needed?  I have zero qualms about calling my vet and scheduling this as I know some kitten shots are important - I just don't know if this is one of them.

Thanks

I too believe we overvaccinate our indoor only cats, much to their detriment. A great site with info about vaccines for cats is catinfo.org. It's written by a vet. What she says about FVRCP is that she would only do 2 kitten shots of this. That's it. I'm not sure from your post how many he has already had.

Sorry, I should have added that, this would be his 3rd.

How old was he when he had the last one?  If it was younger than 14 wks I would go ahead and get the 3rd.    ( the reason is that  until then it's not totally sure that the maternal antibodies might not still be interfering with his ability to respond to the vaccine.  )

I always go home for lunch and I'll get the full vac history and post it up here if that's alright.

Thanks for all the help.

Alright, for vaccinations here's what the little guy has had.

FVRC

FVRCP

Rabies

So I guess this would then be his second FVRCP.  Must have saw the FVRC and in my mind when I made this thread thought it was the FVRCP again

Vet appointment made for Thursday :D

Yeah it sounds like you've already made up your mind but I'd get it.  My stance on vaccinations is generally similar to yours but this is an important one if he was under 14 weeks when he got the last FVRCP

He got his first FVRCP on 7/18/2013 which is the date he was surrendered by his owner and it has 5 months old then.  I guess the owner didn't do any shots ever.
