I was dismayed but perhaps a creature of habit. I finally switched cats to a new dry just as a treat to Merricks Purrfect Bistro. They have no more diarrhea and not vomiting.. I really feel California Natural Brown rice and chicken DRY has been bad for quite a while.Even when they came out with new bags it still was bad. Has anyone had similar results??

Just bumping this up since no one has responded.

So if you're feeding the new Merrick kibble as a treat, what are you feeding as their FOOD? (just curious)

I fed my beloved kitty Skittles canned and dry Friskies all her life (17 years).  I suppose it was just because that's what my folks fed our cats growing up.  When she passed and we got new kitties, I started them on it, too. Then I started learning about the importance of good quality food for cats (especially since joining this site!) and have been trying to transition them over to more decent food.  Many brands they just won't eat.  They like Soulistic sometimes, but won't always eat it.  So then I switched to the Merrick Purrfect Bistro which they really like.

I didn't quite understand your post--are you saying the Purrfect Bistro is bad or is that the new one that you like?  I hope the Merricks is a good brand!

I like purrfect Bistro chicken. A bit more fiber than CN. And they are not getting sick as much as they have been recently on CN. Ingredients are not too bad  I don't see the need to add so many ingredients to dry food thats why I "thought calif natural was good. Some bags of dry you look at the ingredients take up the whole side of the bag, its insane and NOT NEEDED.I'm afraid to go back to caifornia natural. Always on the lookout for good products . its so hard to say what company is good. Most have had some type of recall

I feed my cats dry and wet, although I would prefer all wet and advocate an all wet diet to others if it's possible.

My one cat Caesar is a tiny senior cat with a history of digestive issues, IBS or IBD, but never officially confirmed. He did well on EVO 95% Turkey & Chicken wet food and EVO Turkey & Chicken dry food (same manufacturers as CN) for a long time, but began to have digestive upset again. I had to stop feeding him EVO dry due to the recall and had such a hard time finding a high calorie food not made by Natura or Diamond that he likes and wouldn't make him vomit or get diarrhea.

I continue to feed him EVO 95% Turkey & Chicken since that's the only wet food he'd ever eat, but it seems each can I buy is different (smell, look, consistency) and it's always a toss-up on whether or not he'll eat it. It's frustrating. For the dry, I ended up switching him to Nature's Variety Limited Ingredient Diet Turkey Meal Formula AND Pinnacle Peak Protein (I mix the two 50/50). He's doing extremely well with this mix and the digestive upset has cleared.

It makes we wonder...like what you said...if the EVO dry has been contaminated with salmonella for a long time before the recall was made and I was subtly making my cat sick every time he ate it!

I fed my little kibble addicts California Natural Chicken and Rice for several years.  I actually took them off of it before the recalls because they both needed to loose some weight.  One of them is on a steroid which I am sure is part of it but he has also been prone to constipation and California Natural was low in fiber.  I switched them to Natural Balance reduced calorie Chicken and Rice.  I haven't given up the fight with wet food.  Right now I am trying Wellness Chicken.  I can't feed the grain free dry.  My other cat gets the runs with them, even with the tiny little bit mixed in to start the switch.  California Natural was a good food until they were taken over by Proctor Gamble.  They also ruined IAMs.  IAMs was never a premium food but it was the best of the grocery store brands and was a cheaper alternative to the premium foods.
