My pregnant momma cat just went to the litterbox. I seen her trying to drag a piece of clothing in there so I stopped her. She has pinkish Red mucusy discharge in her girly area. She is heavily pregnant. How long until labor? Earlier she was in the window and looked like she had 2 contractions but that was it. She is so huge. Any help is appreciated.

Trying to drag clothing to her box could very much be a sign of her trying to make a nest in which to give birth. Make sure you have at least one set up for her and block off any areas where you don't want her to have the babies. The discharge could also be a sign of impending labor. So long as there is no smell to it and she doesn't seem distressed I wouldn't worry too much about it at this point.

In general, once you have been seeing/feeling the babies move for two weeks you are pretty close to delivery. Not very accurate but it's better than nothing, especially if you don't know when conception occurred. Other than that it's all very much a wait and see kind of game. Be sure you check on her every few hours so that you don't miss it and look through these links to prepare yourself as best as possible. http://www.thecatsite.com/t/249018/...regnant-cats-kitten-care-articles-and-threads

Finally, remember that she can get pregnant again anytime after giving birth so be sure she has no access to the outdoors or any intact males until after the kittens are weaned and she is spayed. Ask more specific questions if you need to. Best of luck.

I think she's having a few contractions but I don't think they are regular. I timed 2 they were 3 mins apart. But some are awhile inbetween

No more contractions. She's sleeping and acting fine. My lil ones are with a sitter tonight. So hopefully she will relax and have them if not I'm calling vet tomorrow. How much does a csection cost?

Do you have any idea when conception occurred? Or, is there something specific concerning you that is making you think a C-section is necessary? Or is it just because of her size?

Unless you really feel her life is in danger I would urge you not to pursue a C-section. I agree that it may be time for a vet checkup, but cesareans for cats rarely result in the same success stories that they do for human babies. With cats, even one or two days premature is a deadly mistake. As hard as it is to wait this is just the process of nature taking it's course, and she will know when it is time to have them. It's better to have the kittens a little overcooked than not done enough!

Some discharge and light contractions are all a part of the beginning stages, which can last for several days- even up to a week. Really, the best thing you can do is confine her to a small area with all her necessities and a birthing box and keep things as calm and quiet as you can. Check in on her every hour or so to be sure you don't miss it but otherwise allow her some privacy to settle in.

I do think you should call your vet in the morning and give an overview of what is going on. And, they may want to see her which is okay. You just want to weigh the benefits of having her seen with the negative impact the stress of the trip will add on her. If your gut feels like something is wrong then you should absolutely take her in. But, if she seems fine (other than normal pregnancy associated discomfort) try and be patient and allow her to do what her body is telling her.

Signs that you do need to see a vet ASAP would be that she seems to be in serious distress, she is having vaginal discharge that has an odor to it, or she starts actively pushing for more than 30-45 minutes with no kittens.

Only you know what is best for her, and it's okay to take her in just for your peace of mind. But, be very weary of any vet who will schedule a C-Section without looking her over very carefully first. Unless her life is at risk it is not a decision you should make lightly- regardless of the cost.  I know how stressful the waiting game is and it may seem like she can't possibly get any bigger but she may just surprise you. Remember that cats have been having unassisted deliveries for centuries- your girl knows what she is doing. Have faith in the process and do whatever you need to to keep yourself calm. If you are stressed she likely will be too and that won't help her along at all. Be sure you read through the articles linked above as well as older threads and have your birthing kit all ready. The more prepared you are the calmer you will feel.

Good luck and keep us posted as to what the vet says.
