I am looking for some input before I call the vet and ask.  Would like some opinions or to hear from someone else who has had this issue, if anyone.

My male/neutered cat (unknown age maybe 2-6) was diagnosed with struvite crystals a couple of weeks ago.  Originally took him in because he was peeing all over the place.  They found an infection and some crystals.  Treated with Clavamox and a few days after the meds were done, he peed twice in the house.  So back to the vet for another urinalysis and this time no infection but lots of crystals.  I reluctantly bought 2 weeks worth of the rx wet food (royal canin and Hills) because we were at our wits ends cleaning up pee for 2 months all over the house.  So I just wanted to get rid of the crystals then start back on half canned (Earthborn) and half raw and see what happened.  So of course he was been on the rx food exclusively for 4 days before he peed again yesterday then again today on a cat bed.

I do not understand.  The vet made it sound like that rx food was the cure for everything (I know better but figured it would stop the peeing at least).  So now I don't know what to do or if something more is going on with him.  The vet said no more antibiotics, the only thing to do was the rx food.  I had planned on getting him back on his regular food and adding in the L-methionine myself.  I don't know if I can commit to testing his ph levels myself but was going to buy the Wysong supplement with the L-methionine in it.

Anyways, does anyone have any ideas?  I can't keep affording more urine samples, expensive junk food and trips to the vet with no improvement.  I am going broke buying urine cleaner as well as doing constant laundry.  Would love any help before I call the vet and see what she thinks.

Also, a couple weeks ago I switched litter boxes and litter, thinking he was peeing because he associated the box with the pain he felt.  That lasted 3 days before he peed again.

Thanks,

Meagan

I responded to your other thread on this, but this thread has more info. Which Hill's Rx food did you get s/d or c/d? If it was c/d, you may need the stronger s/d or add methionine yourself. However, if you are going to go that route, I would strongly recommend that you commit to testing his urine pH at home. You do not want to let his urine pH go too low since that increases the risk of calcium oxalate stones which can't be dissolved, only surgically removed. Honestly the pH strips are not that expensive, and it's worth it to test at home.
