Cat vomiting - trying to figure out what it is

Hello everyone! First time posting. I've done as much research as I could on this, but thinking it's time to get some other thoughts on it!

A few months ago I switched my cats to Wellness brand food-it seemed to be one of the top-quality foods, and I want to give my cats the absolute best (brother and sister pair, turning 7 on Friday). I give them Wellness Core grain-free to nibble on throughout the day and feed them Wellness Complete Health canned food twice a day (vary between turkey, chicken, and beef and chicken, though mostly turkey since they like it more).

In the past few weeks I've noticed the cats vomiting a good amount. This is alarming because before my cats would puke, like, once a year it seemed. Most of the vomit piles (ew) seem to contain whole dry kibbles.

It seems too late in the game to be upset over the diet change. I'm thinking it may be the dry food- maybe they're eating it too fast and aren't properly chewing the kibbles down, or maybe it's too much after eating the wet? I'd be happy to put them fully on wet- I do know it's better for them- but after almost 7 years of them having dry food to graze on I wonder if that would be a hard adjustment. There is also the small factors of having to then up their canned intake which means more money, and then when I'm gone long days/ travel on weekends and can't promise twice-a-day feedings.

As of right now I completely took away their dry food to see if that does anything. I'm expecting whining kitties soon.

Has anyone had this problem with Wellness food or in general? Again, they're about to be 7 and have NEVER done this before. They were also recently to the vet for a checkup and are in good health. I want to make sure they stop throwing up, and there is also the factor of hey, I'm paying a ton of money for the best food, let's make sure it actually works

Welcome! And, no worries, your post was not long. There could be a few reasons a cat would vomit up undigested food but if both cats are vomiting then I am guessing it is the dry food and that they are eating too fast especially if they vomit shortly after eating the dry. If you don't mind, I think you thread will be better suited in the Nutrition Forum since you have questions about diet as well. Do they ever vomit up the wet food? Canned food may be the way to go with your two kitties. There are a few good articles on how to transition from dry to wet and I think that would be something I would try right away.

I have fed the Wellness Core dry food and there were no problems with throwing it back up. If there are entire pieces of kibble it does sound like they may be eating a little fast.

Are there hairballs in their vomit? I am currently going through my own vomiting nightmare (http://www.thecatsite.com/t/259470/...e-in-ragodoll-what-to-ask-vet/60#post_3366104) and I am pretty sure my cat has ibs. Try giving them small meals throughout the day and see if that helps. 

I know this post is a few years old so I'm not sure if anyone will respond. However I made an account just to post a reply, in case anyone reads it. I switched my two 10 year old cats to Wellness dry and wet food, however they didn't like the dry food so I put them back on Nature's Recipe dry food. My male cat recently started vomiting every day. The vet put him on probiotics and had me try to transition him from the wellness to the prescribed diet but since he wouldn't eat the prescribed diet I just switched him to Halo since I found some of their foods don't contain carrageenan like wellness does. My cat has not vomited for the last two days and his appetite is getting better. I really believe it was the carrageenan causing him to get sick and I just wanted to let you all know, in case anyone else ever has cats get sick off wellness canned food.
