Did they give you pills of cerenia to take home?

The shot only lasts for 24h, so you need to follow up with the pills daily.....

$300 for a shot and cypro? and then t get yelled at? Oh hun..... I am so sorry
No they refused and could only get the cypro - I do have the metoclopramide so I am hoping and praying this will be ok until monday. I also have a better syringe so we will probably have to do that. I cannot describe how terrible I feel right now.

I am so sorry you had to go through that. I have no idea what they think bloodwork is going to prove since IBD does not show up bloodwork. The x-ray just showed the same thing as last time, right, just gas, which could be from any number of things.

I really hope your boy starts feeling better soon.

I really do not think he has IBD he does not normally throw up nor does he have diarrhea- sometimes he does have soft stool though. He has never been a big eater and the vet claims this is an indication because normal cats eat normally- so not true! I am just praying right now he will be ok- I gave him some cypro just now so I hope he eats some more. He has a very small amount of freeze dried chicken, dry food and wet. I will have to syringe him. I think part of the problem is he is so stressed by all the vet trips. Please if people could pray for us-thanks.

I don't know enough about this to know if it's a hairball issue or not but I do have a cat that was finally diagnosed with IBD.  He didn't have the classic symptoms.  He never had diarrhea and he ate fine until he had a flare.  When he had a flare he wouldn't eat and would vomit bile.  Actually he was prone to constipation.  I never did figure out what triggered it and he stays on a small daily dose of a steroid.  It was also something that started after he was grown.

Thanks for the information. My only thing is he keeps throwing up hairballs so I am not sure why it would be something else, but I will check into it when I find another vet. This idiot was trying to tell be ibd cats are allergic to protein and need an all grain diet-***!

Question on syringe feeding. We finally got a proper syringe and the AD which is much easier than the EN we got yesterday. We just gave him about 15 CC's and I am wondering how much to give him? The vet said 10 CC's twice a day but I do not think that is at all enough food. How much should a give a 9 pound cat a day? I think I am just going to do all syringe feedings now and stop trying to fight him to eat. It actually went pretty well so I feel a bit better about leaving him. I just wish I had a better vet lined up before I leave.

Patches would also do that.   He also had the gas patterns on x-rays that looked like a blockage.  The first vet that kept him on an IV took lots of x-rays looking for a blockage and the gas pattern wouldn't change from one x-ray to the next.  That all cost me a pretty penny.  It's from the loss of motility caused by the thickening of the lining of the digestive system.  That vet finally gave him an enema and he came out of it only to go through all of it again 3 months later.  I really hope this isn't whats going on with your kitty but I just wanted to let you know that IBD doesn't always present with the classic symptoms.  It's an auto immune process and like auto immune things in humans it can present in many different ways.

You need to syringe feed him the amount he eats a day, divided in small meals.
I like feeding 1 to 1.5 oz per meal, depending on how much the cat will take.
Yes, if you feed The amount the vet is telling you to, and if that's all your cat will eat, brace yourself for fatty liver
I would aim for a can a day, or a bit less. An ounce is 26cc, I think? Around that....

There are actually 30cc per oz.
I would feed several 1 oz meals.... :vibes:

Again thank you for your helpful information and again if I had listened to the vet it would have been terrible for my cat! I have been able to feed him over 30 cc which is about half the can- maybe I am measuring wrong but over half the can is gone. He has also eaten some freeze dried chicken, some dry and wet. I will feed him even more tomorrow and made up a feeding schedule to feed him about 15 cc every couple hours for my mother. He is actually a very small eater to begin with and I am lucky if he eats 3 oz of wet and he also has some dry out and eats freeze dried chicken most days. I am aiming for most of a can a day of the hills.

Thanks again! Yes I have been reading that may be a symptom of IBS I just really don't trust this vet and I do not want to put him on a high grain diet to treat this. I am going to try to work with a holistic vet to figure out a diet plan for him.

Denice is right, he might have IBS... My two cats with the most hairball issues do... Actually, Bugsy has IBD for sure and I think Lucky might have, but she hasn't been diagnosed.
This doesn't mean what you are going through isn't a hairball crisis though.... Imho. There is the Ibd or Ibd, and then there are the hairball situations and even blockages.
Also, for my IBD cat, the only thing that worked was a raw diet. I tried all meds, all diets on the market; he only got better on raw.
Prescription diets only made him obese
Anyways, I hope he is getting a little better.... At least he is keeping food down now, and that is GREAT!
Once he feels better she should start eating on his own. The cypro should be kicking in about tomorrow or so, it will help, you will see :cross:
Keep going, keep holding on.... Hopefully you will find a vet you trust real soon :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:

Sounds good! I assume he has been keeping the food down?
Also, make sure your mom does some feeding while you are around, so you know she can do it.... Some cats are so much better with momma....
Hopefully tomorrow Cypro will kick in and he will be eating more on his own :cross:

I understand about not trusting a vet.  We are on our third vet since this started and I like this one.  I actually like both of the vets there.  I have only seen the other vet once but I also like her.  I was shelling out so much money with the other vets and getting no resolution.  I honestly thought I was going to be pushed to the point of considering euthanasia because I just couldn't continue with the huge vet bills with no end in sight.

Yes keeping food down. He actually seems better today and ate some freeze dried chicken with more gusto than he has in days! He didn't want to touch his wet food though so will have to keep syringe feeding. My mother is doing it with me so she knows the deal.

That is great is found a good vet! I have spent almost $1000 on shoddy care this week, I am beyond mad. I have been doing a lot of research on vets and it appears there are just not any really good ones in the city , but I found one out it the suburbs that looks promising.

I have been trying to get him on raw for a while, my 16 year old dog and the new kitten eat raw, but Frank vomits every time he has any-even a tiny amount in his wet food. I have tried raw chicken and freeze dried venison. When this is over I am going to try some other flavours again. Right now his diet is tiki cat, weruva and oriijen and also freeze dried pure bite chicken. Like I said he has always been a terrible eater though since getting the new kitten he was eating more wet food until this episode.

My two cats are the same way.  I tried every wet food there is and the most they would do is a few bites and it wouldn't be long before they wouldn't even do that.  It's my own fault.  I didn't know any better when I got them as kittens and I gave them kibble, now that is all they will eat.  Unfortunately, at least as far as food goes, they aren't like dogs.  They won't eat something they don't want when they get hungry enough.  The best possible food available is no good for a cat that won't or can't eat it.

He does like tiki cat but never eats a lot. He seems to be off wet food right now and will only eat freeze dried chicken and temptations- I know not a complete diet so we are doing the syringe feeding.
