My cat Boomer just got home from UTI surgery, I am wondering how long it will take for him to recover. He is eating and drinking just fine. My main concern is he is not urinating in the litter box. When he walks there is often a trial of urine. He going on the carpet and tile. His stomach and tail are covered with urine. Is this common? Is there anything I can do to help him use the litter box or will that happen as he heals . He does use the litter box to go number 2. Is it normal for the leakage to occur after the surgery? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Did he have his penis removed or a catheter in.  Not in control of the urine need to be told to the vet.  You also may need to trim hair to cleanse the urine areas(urine burns are nasty to deal with) No bathing but can get pet wipes or some cleaner the vet says will be safe.  Did they give you a printout of what to expcet/call if these symptoms occur?  Does he have a follow up appointment scheduled?

Thanks for the response. We were not given a care sheet. The doctor told my husband what to do and expect. He had a catheter put in. There is no follow-up visit scheduled. But we are calling the vet on Monday.
