Hi everyone! I've just joined up as I'm trying to find as much information as possible, Last wednesday I rescued a feral kitten that was found in my works car park, he is a gorgeous little thing and he is finally coming out of his shell and even woke me up today by pouncing on my face! I've never had a cat as a pet before so it's all new to me!

I took him to the vets and she said he was about 5 weeks old and said he would be half way through the weening process with his mum, she gave me kitten milk and some high protein high energy food for him which he is taking very well!

He hasn't taken any water yet, we have tried 3 different types of bowls all spaced out for him, tried syringing water in and also tried him drinking from the kitchen tap but this just scared him! Should I be worried that he hasn't drank any water or is it too early for water for him yet?? If so when should he start having water and any tips to help get him to drink some water?

Also we are trying to figure out if he is going to be long haired or short haired, what does everyone think?

Thank you

If you are feeding him wet food, with that plus the milk, he should be getting enough liquid. Once he is off the milk, wet food is best. If you feel he needs more water, though, there are all sorts of good cat fountains you can buy. I use Pet Pioneer, the ones shaped like a tear drop. My cats love them.

Good luck with your kitten. What color is he?

Oh what a sweetie--as you and your boyfriend are for rescuing this cat.

He is probably getting enough liquids from the wet food and milk; cats have a very low thrist drive/requirement.

Hard to tell whether is will be long or short or medium hair; he still has his kitten coat.
