Frequent urination after bladder surgery - when does it return to normal?

Hi all.  Sorry to keep posting over and over about my boy Moe, but I am moderately concerned about his recovery from bladder surgery.  He had surgery last Friday (5/24) to remove a stone from his bladder (still waiting to find out what kind of stone it was).  He seems to be recovering well: good appetite, very purry and lovey, now trying to scratch his way out of the bathroom where he is confined - thank goodness they nipped his claws while he was at the surgeon!

My concern is the frequent urination.  He goes to the litter box several times an hour and pees a little bit, anywhere from marble size to half dollar size amounts.  I spoke to the surgeon on Wednesday and she didn't seem terribly concerned; she said to give it about a week from the day of surgery (tomorrow) to start normalizing.  She mentioned that his bladder wall was very thick, that they had taken a sample, cultured it and nothing grew so that meant the bladder was sterile (I think that's how she said it...didn't make a lot of sense at the time).  He's on a 7 day course of Clavamox, which runs out tomorrow, "just in case".

For those of you who have gone through bladder surgery with your kitties...how long did it take your furry to start urninating normally?  Am I being overly anxious and just need to give it more time?

Althought I've never gone through this with a cat, my understanding is that it does take some time to normalize after surgery. There's still going to be inflammation that will take some time to die down. I wouldn't worry too much yet. Give it a few more days.

I believe your vet cultured for any bacterial infection, didn't find any, but gave you antibiotics anyway.

It has taken Calvin about 7 days before he stopped urinating frequently. He had his surgery on 5/21. He did have blood in his urine for the first 3 days. He was still urinating outside of the box some for the first week but I haven't seen him do that in the last few days.
He doesn't seem to be in pain anymore and his activity level is normal now.
Moe might still have some inflammation left and so he is still trying to empty his bladder all the time.
I would say call the vet again if it doesn't seem to stop in the next couple days.
Oh and the vet only prescribed onsior an antiinflammatory for the first three days. He didn't send any antibiotics home with Calvin either.

Moe always makes it to the box, and he doesn't seem to be in pain.  He did have 10 doses of a liquid pain killer, and he got the last one of those yesterday morning.  They started the antibiotics because they weren't sure if there was an infection, the surgeon told me to just go ahead and finish it up.  I haven't noticed any blood in his urine, so I guess that's a good thing.  He vomited at some point last night (first time) but was in good spirits and eating this morning.  I guess I'll keep an eye on him for a couple more days and ask the vet about it when she calls to tell me what kind of stone he had.

Luvmy4, I'm curious, how long does your Calvin have to be confined and is he wearing a cone?  Moe has to stay confined and in his cone for two weeks...one more week to go!

Calvin did not have a cone collar at all. I restricted his activity for 7 days. I did let the two cats he really loves visit with him after 4 days under my strict supervision. I didn't let them see each other when I wasn't awake or home though. He is out and about now though his incision looks healed. There is no scabbing left.

Oh I am still waiting to hear back about the lab results as well. They went to Minnesota and their website says average turn around is 14 days.
