My female cat and my male cat mated 8 days ago, My male has now been fixed for 9 and my female is scheduled to be fixed this up coming thursday, but i think she is pregnant so I was going to call their vet and cancel until after the kittens are born. Today I come down stairs and they are trying to mate again and i can not find anything on the internet about exactly what I am asking so i figured to ask here

I want to know if a cat can stay in heat even after being mated? can a heat cycle last 12 days? shouldn't she have came out of heat after being mated? I am in no way upset if she is not pregnant, but i am concerned about it being this early and not being able to know if she is or is not pregnant thanks for all the help in advance.

The heat doesnt necessarily end just because they had mated.  &

He can be still fertile 8 days after.

I would recommend you to spay anyway, as it is very shortly after the possible conception.  The first time you can notice anything is at about 3 weeks, when they get rosy tits.

I mean, I saw myself in a british veterinary handbook, they did warned for spaying while in heat, as the tissues are more fragile, the operation more difficult and dangerous.  Remedy recommended?

Let them be pregnant, and spay in early pregnancy.

So, unless you are really anxious to have this litter, do spay her, without any second thoughts nor bad conscience.

Good luck!

OK, so you will know for sure at the earliest at about 3 weeks, when the tits get (more) rosy. "raspberry-rosed".

Experienced breeders can often get a hint earlier, they change their behavior somewhat.  Getting more sleepy, more loving, changes the eating pattern.

Yes, you are the pilot on this route and only you can land the plane. You must decide yourself.   :)

Good luck!

Will you be keeping all the kittens? Otherwise they'll be taking homes away from kittens who will be killed for lack of homes :(. At this point, the eggs will not yet have implanted. I would go ahead with the spay. It's so early in the pregnancy (if it took) that even the vet won't be able to tell except by the state of her uterus. So many kittens are killed for lack of homes that ending the pregnancy this early is more of a mercy than anything.
