So my kitten, Ares, has an upper respiratory infection - and a bad one at that. My vet first gave me Biomox (which is essentially amoxicillin) and it did nothing. We only had two days left of the meds and he was just going downhill.  I brought him back to the vet this morning, as he had started sneezing blood (Which I'm pretty sure was just a bloody nose from sneezing so much) but I still wanted to be safe and get him a new medication. The vet, telling me the URI had developed into a much more severe case, gave me the antibiotic azithromycin. He also told me that the rest of the kittens Ares had been living with at the shelter have gotten URI as well - great.

So he's on his new meds, I'm keeping him as comfortable as possible and taking rips to the bathroom to start the shower up and clear out his congestion. He was eating fairly well before, which was a relief, but as of this morning has barely eaten anything. I tried mixing the A/D cat food with some goats milk, but he only gave it a few licks and moved on. Tried some raw salmon, and he also ate just a few bites. What are some foods that are good for sick kittens to get them to eat? Or some way to encourage a cat to eat his own food?

Thanks in advance, I just want my little boy to be as healthy and comfortable as possible until this URI runs its course.

When cats can't smell as a result of the URI, they just don't want to eat. You have to try to make the food as stinky as possible in my experience. Mix some tuna water into his wet food. Try toppers like bonito flakes. With my cat, I will dab some food onto her mouth. She'll automatically lick it, and sometimes that will get her to eat. No matter what, kittens must eat. If he stops eating, you might need to syringe feed until he's better. A/D works great for that. Hope Ares feels better soon. Lots of healing vibes his way.

Thank you so much! I got him to eat a little bit of tuna with his food, but he's not a big fan of fish. His fecal test also came back today, I jut got the call, and he still has Coccidia - just finished his first round of Albon 3 days ago, and his fecal still came back very positive with a +4. Poor guy has to take two meds now.

I'm actually getting really worried about him, I got him from the shelter and they told me he had coccidia, and that the medication I gave him would clear him up in 10 days. Not he has a URI, which apparently he also got from the shelter, plus still having parasites. I'm just at a lose right now, I've been to the vet almost every day this week :/

Oh, one last question. I'm considering getting him a vaporizer or a humidifier - which is better? He is very congested and I want to give the poor kitten some relief. I'll only have it on when I'm present, in fear of him burning himself. Any suggestions? are either of these safe and will work?

Thanks~
