My cat had 5 kittens 3 weeks ago. All are doing well but this morning, the most boisterous of them (a boy) raced towards me as I entered the room and, well, fell off the bed. There was a thump and although he's one of the biggest I'm still worried... So far he hasn't shown any odd signs... as soon as I gave him back to his mother, he started drinking as normal. My only concern is that he's not playing as enthusiastically with his siblings any more. Has anyone had any experience with something like this? Any help would be appreciated!

How is it going? Kittens do have some natural sturdiness, surely better than human babies, but a heavy smack is a heavy smack...   If there are problems, you must prob contact a vet, possible x-ray...

If the kitten loses conciousness - asap to vet.

Good luck!

Hi Stefan, thanks for the reply. But guess what? It happened AGAIN this morning with another kitten. >_<

They both seem fine... they're drinking as normal, although they don't seem as confident to move around as much as before. What signs should I look out for??

Ouch!  Apparently you cant have them on the bed.  Have them on the floor level!  Or at least, have thick blankets around the bed, so if they fall down, they will fall softly.  The drawback is you wont hear when they fall down, but I suppose you can live with that.   smile.

Here they seems to manage OK, but dont try out Lady Lucky again, please.  They themselves had apparently learned it may be dangerous out there!

What I was thinking on, if they got a blood wessel in the head sprained, blood or other fluids comes out and press on the brain.  You can notice it if they got unusually sleepy or lose conciousness. )of course easier to notice on adult humans than small kittens who do sleep a lot anyway,)   The saving is not so difficult, "just" to open the skull and let the fluids flood out...  But it must be done asap....

Otherways, if they go more wobbly than earlier and so on...

Good luck!

I've tried putting them on the floor level, but their mother won't feed them there! She prefers them to be on my bed, since it's where she would always sleep before they were born.

So far they seem OK, although the one that fell this morning is a bit wobbly. But I think he was wobbly before he fell, too. I guess that if something was wrong, it would have manifested as soon as he fell, right? [He's drinking/moving around/playing a little still.] I'd take him to the vet to be sure, but they're closed, apart from emergency hours, which is VERY expensive.

Hopefully he'll be OK, he IS the biggest, after all! :)

Hello! Thanks for the suggestion... I think we may have a couple left over from when my little brother stopped needing them. It's either those or a cot which we also have, although it may feel a bit funny putting kittens in a cot :) Then there's the issue of their mum getting in and out, too. Hmm... perhaps those bed rails might be a better idea!

Hey a cot would be better than the bed I guess.  The fall would be shorter :p

But;seriously, those kittens aren't old enough to learn about falling out of bed yet.  Best to do what you can to protect them.  Good luck!
