Using his winter shelter now lol

I had two feral kitties I was taking care of this past winter - a black female and a gold male. I built them winter shelters but black kitty was the only one that would use them. Gold kitty would not go in them and slept under the deck all winter. Black kitty disappeared a couple of months ago and I haven't seen her since. Gold kitty stayed all winter sleeping under the deck. Now that it is spring and getting a little warmer gold kitty decided it was time to sleep in his shelter about a week ago. Silly kitty lol

Better late than never!!!  Maybe Gold kitty will continue to use it for shelter from the rain with the warmer weather approaching! 

My DH built a nice wooden shelter for my first feral, Shadow 3 years ago.  He refused to use it all winter and also just slept under my deck or under my neighbors screened porch.  Unfortunately a raccoon moved it and quite enjoyed it!  I moved it to the garage for summer and then brought it back out in the fall and started putting treats inside to coax him in.  He did go in and eat the treats, but never wanted to sleep in it.  I couldn't waste such a nice shelter so now it is used as a place to put food during the night.  I have it up on a table.  We have flashing around the table to try and keep the raccoons out.  At least the skunks and oppossums cannot get up to it.  Most nights Shadow eats the small amount of food early enough that there is nothing left for the raccoon.  I only use this during the winter when I know the kitties haven't eaten enough during the day!

Hopefully Gold kitty keeps using the shelter.
 

Hopefully he does. I was so excited the first time he used it. He doesn' t use it all the time but seems to be using it more all the time. I know it sounds silly but seeing him in his shelter makes me very happ.

It doesn't sound silly. I get happy when I see my indoor kitties laying on their cat tree. There is something really sweet about a cozy kitty.

Not silly at all by any means. It's like we feel rewarded somehow, we did something right and made them feel good too. I get excited and happy about almost anything that they accept and use or eat, (especially eat atm lol) Glad to hear he is using it more, even if a bit later then you had hoped for. But now he'll be used it and more comfortable for next winter
