She is absolutely adorable!  I once brought in a stray and had him for 20 years.  After many loyal years of giving me love and affection, he died of old age this past summer.  When I brought him home in 1993 I didn't know what to name him so I called him "Bud" when he got into my plants and peed.  Very soon he became known to family and friends as "The Bud Cat", and that evolved to Buddy, Butters, and then one day Diggies... and how that came out, I'll never know.  From then on, Diggies was his intimate name and "The Bud Cat" was his formal name.  I'm a believer that the cat gives you its own name by telepathy.

More examples:  I had another stray cat, whose name I could not come up with until one day my husband picked her up and the name "Wheaties" came out of nowhere.  That's the name she wanted!  We also took in a kitten that somebody had easily named "Garfield" because he was orange... this name would not stick until somehow "Fielder's Choice" evolved, and soon it got shortened to "Field".  Can you imagine calling a cat by the name of "Field"?  Sounds stupid, but he loved it and it fit him perfectly!

The cat in my profile I formally named "King Footie" because of his white foot and because he is regal-looking. That's not the name he wanted, but it's his formal name...he eventually told me that he wants to be called "Pingers".  Other than telepathy, I can't tell you how stuff like this happens.

When I was a child, I had a cat I named "Cuddles"... that never stuck, but one day I called him Panther and that did stick.  He lived to be 21 years old.  Then there was Breezy who wanted to be "Beeezer", but that wasn't my cat.

And one more... a cat I conveniently named "Bunny" somehow told me she wanted to be called "Burrrrrr".  Go figure, but just know that if she tells you her name it means you have to keep her.
OMG, I can SO relate to this and it had me LOLing.  My orange and white cat has changed names so many times that I couldn't remember which name he was listed under when I last called the vet.  I embarassingly needed them to read off the list of names on our account so I could pick one hehe  He was Patch, then Patcher, Patcher Doodle, Doodle, Doodle Pants, Senor Doodle Pants and now I mostly call him Pants, Pantser or Dood(er) hehe Silly I know, but it has been a long time in the making.

Maybe I need not focus on finding this kitty's actual name, but on finding her starting name ;)

I have the pleasure of naming kittens and cats all the time due to rescue, and there are times when a name hits me that is so appropriate, that's the one!

Then there are times when there's a delay, and I just can't seem to find the 'right' name....

A few of my faves for some of my calicos/torties have been-

Ginger- actually Ginger Snap but lost the snap as she grew up,

Darla,

Brigit,

Amelia,

Anastasia,

Annabelle,

Athena,

Autumn (ah that's a good one for her)

April (another good one since it's April!)

Blossom,

Buffy,

Cookie,

Cricket,

Daphne-love that one!

Heather,

Juliette,

Madonna,

Mindy,

Natalie

Nevaeh (heaven backwards)

Okay I could go on and on!

Short for perfect timing.  I like non-human names that have meaning to them.  It also sounds like a backwoods version of the word 'pretty' and she is gorgeous!

So sorry to hear of your loss. Many kitty purrs to you. <3

As soon as I saw her lovely little face I thought... Aya ... A pretty name for a pretty kitty! Two syllables too!

Here is the meaning of the name in different languages:

Aya is a female name with multiple meanings in different languages. Aya (あや, アヤ) is a common female Japanese given name. Meaning "Design" "Art" or "Beautiful" Aya is also an Arabic female name written as آية meaning "sign", "miracle", or "verse." A'ya is also in use in the Hebrew language and means "to fly swiftly." or "Bird"

I love the name Dooder -- it sounds purrfect!  That is a marvelous name for a cat!  I truly believe he is telling you something.

I have a friend of mine who brought in a cat that has a funny looking bob-like tail.  He started calling him Bob, which the cat apparently didn't like, then it went to Stinky Bob (2 words). The cat didn't like that either, but something about making it one word... "Stinkybob" said very quickly, made it perfect.

I do not know if a name has been chosen yet but I like the idea of naming her based on her fire like markings on her head. My suggestion is Phoenix.

Just love your story. I guess all of us can relate to losing a much loved kitty, but the biggest tribute is to provide a home for another precious baby -- and she is absolutely beautiful!

I can only think of the name -- Ayla. She was the name of a character in the series of books that started with Clan of the Cave Bear. I just fell in love with that name.

Llet us know what name you chose --- and send us more pictures!

Agree agree agree!!!!!

Some great choices here. I still think mine is the best (even though I just realized that you spelled Cali without the e). Still!

I think you are so right too about just picking the first name. The nicknames always seem to evolve over time. You are just looking for her "proper" name. Technically I have Ella and Diego, but rreeeaaallllyyyyy I have the Bean and the Booger. Their real names only seem to get used when they are in trouble!

I can't wait to hear what you decide on!
