Scared to spay Delilah

I took Delilah to the new vet here to get a check up and discuss getting her spayed. She was very sweet and good at the vet, and was very cooperative about getting blood drawn. She does still have a heart murmur, but it is a grade I. She said Delilah is healthy though and she should be fine and she will take extra care of her. We ran her blood work today and I will get the results tomorrow. As long as everything looks good she is set to go. For some reason the "what if" is tearing me up and I want to cry at the thought of putting her under and losing her. Even though we left the vet today being told we would be safe, I am still terrified.

Oh hun, I know just how you feel
.  Delilah is such a special little girl, and she has been through so much (you two together, I mean), and this is just one more worry for you.  There should be nothing to go wrong, but still, she is your baby girl!

Is Penelope having the same surgery on the same day
, or did she already have it done, since she was always a little healthier and slightly bigger?  That would just double your worry, if they are going in together
.

Mega vibes that all will be AOK.

I was actually supposed to get Penelope in this week, but she went into heat for the first time the day after I made the appointment. The vet wants me to wait about a month before she goes in now. It will be a few weeks before I can bring Delilah in anyways, but I am stressing already. They might end up going in at the same time now. I am less scared about Penelope. It might almost be better to get them done on the same day, so I only have the worry on that day instead of two. They also keep them overnight, so I will be worried how my babies are doing until morning.

WRT Penelope, she may well be back in call in a month!  Personally I would make the appointment for 7-10 days after she started calling, she should be out by then.

I followed Delilah's story at the time, I know how special she is, but we also both know the health and behavioural risks of not neutering her.  Everything is tightly crossed for when you take her.

I agree with Laurie  You DO have a wonderful vet who has not steered you wrong as far as dear Delilah goes. I think you can trust her when she says Delilah will be alright and that she will take "extra" care of her. :hugs: :rub: You will still worry, though. :sigh: It is just what we momma's do.:hugs: :grphug: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

As far as Penelope I will make her appointment for next week. I figured she could be back in heat by the time a month came around. It was the person at the front desk who told me I had to wait. It has been a while since I have dealt with cats in heat. I was lucky none of my fosters ever called while they were still nursing. Then they were fixed afterwards.

I know I waited a long time to get them fixed. I am lucky Penelope just went into heat for the first time. For Delilah though I don't think the wait was a bad thing. She is soo much healthier now than even a few months ago. She has endless energy, she has even hit a mini growth spurt and is now 5.5lbs. Still tiny though, I think it might be muscle. :lol3:

This is the new vet though, that my vet, Dr. G, before I moved recommended. Dr. G used to work with her and has brought her own pets all the way here for her to do the surgery when they needed it. If she says I should trust her, then I will. They talk to each other about Delilah too. She was taking pictures of Delilah yesterday to send to Dr. G. :D

Well the vet called with her blood work results and says it is beautiful, and everything looks great. We are all set, I just need to make the appointment. I have to wait for pay day and then we will make the appointment.

:clap: Great that these two vets know each other! Absolutely, Delilah is in the best care.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Awww...... :heart2: It will be OK! :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: They'll be in VERY good hands! (I remembered you'd moved, and this is the vet your vet used/recommended. I did not remember (or know?) they'd worked together). But that says a LOT - that she travels to have her cats have their surgery done by the new (to you) vet! And how sweet is it that they talk about Delilah, and Dr. N (for new vet LOL) is sending pics to Dr. G! :D

Delilah (and Penelope) will be surrounded by prayers, good thoughts, and healing vibes!!!!

I know your fear, but to reassure you, my 9 month old Jack Frost has a grade 3 murmer and got through his neutering with flying colors. I'm sure your Delilah is in great hands and will be fine. As long as the vets are aware of these conditions, they are prepared. Sending good
your way!

I do feel better about the surgery now than I did. I think getting the check up and everything first helped.

Yes, I don't know if I mentioned but it is the same clinic Dr. G worked in until she moved to where I used to live. She worked there for a while with Dr. N. She had told me before I left that she used to live near where I was moving to, I didn't think at the time to ask what vet to go to. It was after Penelope hated the vet I took her to, that I called her and asked where to go. She was so nice to tell me not just where to go, but who to see. Then she said she was going to call Dr. N to tell her I would be coming to see her.

Delilah goes in tomorrow for her spay. I am super nervous, but I keep telling myself she will be just fine. She has to spend the night there tomorrow night, it is going to be so odd waking up without her on Thursday. Hopefully she wont mind it too much. Penelope goes in next week. I had to post pone spay plans with the last few weeks I have been having. I did Delilah first because I already paid for her blood work, and it is on valid to use for a month.

Thanks for all the vibes!

I just got home from dropping Delilah off. Since she is staying overnight she will be the last surgery of the day. I am not expecting to hear anything till 2. Today is going to be a long day, I am just going to have to keep myself busy. I am hoping she is not too stressed being at the vet for so long, she does have her blanket with her, so she has something that smells like home. I am hoping with her being so outgoing that she will be just fine, she does loves outings and getting attention from everyone, but I am usually there.

I had a cat go though just fine with a grade 3 murmur.  I also have sent dozens of cats in for s/n and no issues.  Most with no blood work drawn before and done in low cost clinics.  Good luck!
