I found her around February 14th in Franklin county NC. Shes brownish black no fleas terrified of people. I only caught her because I had a can of food and wasn't leaving till I caught her it was really cold at the time.  She'd been living under my neighbors porch for at least three days.  Shes very loving and sweet was still very kitten faced when I found her. I haven't managed to take her to a vet so don't know if shes microchip-ed.  no collier.   I'm wondering if any one here mite know anything that could help.

Thank you for rescuing the little one.  Do you have some specific questions?  What are you looking for help with?  Do you want to keep her if she is not micro chipped?  (our boys, who were found on our front porch,  WERE chipped, but when we called their owner, she asked if we wanted them, and we said "YES", so now they are ours
)

Just let us know what you need help with, and we'll try to get your answers.

Hi and welcome to TCS!

Thank you so much for caring and rescuing the poor little one. Put her on wet kitten food and get her vet checked asap. I am assuming she is indoors now? Feel free to ask with any questions you have.

yes she is indoors now doesn't even look outside much.  I do plan to keep her if she isn't chipped.  right now shes eating 1/2 can Iams kitten proactive health wet and 1/2 a cup Purina Kitten chow 2 times a day morning and night the wet stuff for lunch at 3pm. I've been trying to figure out how old she is.  but I'm not sure at what age kittens stop being kitten faced.

God bless you for taking in this little one, she must have been so cold and scared. I wish all the abandoned kittens and cats could find homes, there are just too many! Good luck, the main thing you need to have is love.

Yes thank you so much for taking care of this cat.

What color are her eyes?

And pictures, we like pictures, which *may* help us figure out how old she is.  The vet will be able to tell you based on her/his teeth.

Very underweight cats will look much younger than they really are.

Here is a portfolio of kittens with their ages.

Her eyes are yellow with a green ring around the pupils. she was a bit underweight when I caught her but was still kitten faced for a week or two even after gaining a good bit.  shes not really kitten faced any more furs gotten smoother too.  colors in image are a little off cause my light makes everything more yellow then it is.  pic taken with poor quality phone at 12:26 on 3/21/2013. been calling her Karma.

Sounds like you saved a life. :heart3: :hugs: I highly doubt this kitten has a chip but best to take her to the vet right away to get checked out and started on vaccinations, deworming, etc. And, yes, we would love to see a picture of your new little one. :pix:

Thank you.  I figured she was somewhere between 4 and 6 months.   She has been doing something weird I've never seen a cat do before, she keeps trying to hold my hand and chew on my fingers its not all that hard no blood or anything but I'm not sure how to handle it.

Here are two mekanism most probable.

1. Classical love bites, or some playful variation of them.

2. She is in the age when they do bite and chew on, it "ichyies" in her gum because she changes tooth in this age... So she will essentially bite and chew on almost everything.  Get her something more suitable to chew on!  Something of hard rubber is perhaps best.

If she is very easy with her biting and you dont mind, you can let her proceed.  My residents for example, both did so, and both grew out of it. Today one can love bite sometimes, very neatly. The other can bite for warning, also very neatly. Never a scratch.

Observe most forumites will advise you not to let her play with your hands, if she has any tendencies to bite, carefully or hard.

AWWW she is SO GORGEOUS!! I also think she is around five months. As for the finger chewing, this is very typical of a kitten. She is teething also. There are very inexpensive "teething" toys made especially for kittens at most pet stores. Pick her up a few toys as well. She doesn't mean you any harm, so don't be upset with her or concerned as this is totally normal behavior. If you have some play sessions with her a few times a day then she will settle down and take more naps too. Those wand toys are very popular but make sure you put them away in a cabinet where she can't reach the string. That's one lucky kitty to have found you, especially around Valentines Day. :heart3:

p.s. The other possibility for the finger grabbing and chewing is that she is "suckling" them for comfort and security? Some kittens if taken from their mother's too soon develop this behavior and need. I had a kitten that wanted to suckle my neck :lol3: up until almost nine months of age and then slowly started to give it up on his own. But I think you would know if the grabbing is more playful or more of a need. She would be purring profusely and making a kneading motion with her paws if it were associated with suckling.

I did think she was trying to suckle at first but all the cats I'd seen do it tended to keep the fingers in the front of there mouths she pulls my fingers around to the sides and chews purring the whole time but no kneading.

Yup it is normal.  The adult teeth will push the kitten teeth out soon enough.  As long as they are coming in at same angle no worries-I have a cat whose adult teeth are pushed against the top of her mouth.  Does not hurt her any.

She NEEDS to go get spayed soon as this puts her in the age range where she could already have mated/pregnant.

Stella had her double fangs at about 5 months if I remember correctly.  It's just the adult canines pushing through before the kitten canines have fallen out.  The first time I saw this was when Jason was a kitten, and I was quite alarmed initially!

And yes, get her spayed if you haven't already!  Stella got spayed right about at the 5 month mark (I think I know her age to a couple of weeks), and I found out that she was in heat when she had it done.  This was before her adult fangs started to emerge!  I didn't bother getting Stella scanned for a chip because I knew her origins were feral, but it would be in your best interests to do so.

She is beautiful. You have a life long friend and I think she picked you out. Just give her lots of love, good food, many head kisses and keep her indoors. You are both lucky to have each other.
