Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
She's never had one like this before. Well - when she was first rescued, but that was extreme. She was so riddled with herpes when rescued, she lost an eye and most of her hearing to it. But since then, she's NEVER, not once, had a flare-up! She's 10 this year.

She has had ongoing problems with her lungs from a really bad lung worm infection when rescued - scarring has left her with early stage asthma, high blood pressure, and as of last year, she does seem prone to bronchitis. This usually presents as just a dry sounding cough. She's had it three times in the past 1.5 years, and it goes away with Doxy.

Well, she's been sleeping and not wanting to eat much. Things like this usually pass almost as quickly as they come. But this time she has a wet cough. Her one eye is red rimmed - though not running - and her inner eyelid is showing as of last night. She's sneeezing and it's messy, so we're off to the vet today.

Obviously I bumped her lysine to 1,000mg a day when this started (2 days ago). But she doesn't eat enough to get all of it in her, so I've ordered some lysine treats that should be here tomorrow.

I just don't know if lysine is all I should be giving her, or if she needs an antibiotic. So we're off to see the vet. I'd appreciate some vibes for her - I hate seeing her like this! :slant:

Aww, I have no words of wisdom...just best wishes for Flowerbelle to get well soon.  Let us know how it goes at the vet.

Thank you so much for vibes for her! :hugs:

She does have infection. :( Fever of 104, very congested. I'm to keep giving her the increased dose of lysine, and start an antibiotic (we're using zeniquin). She's curled up on the front dash in the sun. :heart2:

I'm sorry to hear it is an infection. Vibes that the increased lysine and zeniquin make her well again soon. Vibes for her mommy too.

I think I remember fluoroquinolines being more bioavailable on an empty stomach, but check with the vet on that one. Especially if you have tummy issues to contend with.

Hope she clears up soon!

I'm so sorry your baby isn't well. I totally understand the upset, fear, and panic when a beloved pet is ill. Wishing Flowerbelle a full recovery and her mom peace of mind.

Oh, no.  I can't believe I missed this thread.   How is she doing today?  You know she is one of my favorites here.  Give her lots of hugs, kisses and skritchies from me.

How's she doing today?  Have the antibiotics started kicking in yet?  Poor baby
(I was hoping when I started reading this thread that maybe, just maybe, it was allergies, but noooooooo, I was wrong, darn it!

We're keeping each other company. I've been running a fever of over 100 for two days now. (Swallowing feels like I'm swallowing glass shards). I'm down to 99-something now, and she IS feeling better!

She's had 2 doses of antibiotics (3rd will be tonight). She's still snotty, but sneezing less. She's sleeping all day - but showing up at meals and wanting to eat. She doesn't finish, but if I keep adding a little bit of water to it and offering it to her over the course of an hour or so, she'll eat most of it. :D

Flowerbelle - not sick, but darn cute! :lol3:

Actually, she's really enjoying curling up in my knees - UNDER the covers! :lol3:

Sorry to hear that you're sick too Laurie. Vibes for you to get better soon. I'm glad to hear Flowerbelle is on the mend. Aria loves to take a nap too under the covers in the nice little cat cave under my knees!

:hugs: Thanks. Yeah, I'm on the mend too. :)

And yes! Flowerbelle occasionally likes that too - the "knee cave." Only this time, I'm on my side, my knees aren't up: so the blankets are basically on her - it's a really small cave! :lol3: That's what's odd about her enjoying it. Go figure! (But it's definitely very warm. :) ).

Glad to hear you're on the mend too. I was wondering why you hadn't posted in a while. Yeah, Aria will do that too, especially if I roll over onto my side. I don't think she likes that as much. There's a lot of ear twitching from the blankets touching her ears, yet she'll sleep under the covers by herself in a little cocoon???
