Hi everyone, I just joined this forum after having reached and read it often.

I have a couple of color-point cats, a male and a female, (they are not related). They both are two years old and the queen is now expecting. This is her second pregnancy. Last year she had 5 kittens but lost the first two, I think due to the fact that the first one was the biggest and was coming out tail first, and it was her first pregnancy. It seemed to have got stuck with his leg because when she finally pushed him out he had his leg all stretched out. I felt horrible not knowing how to help my lady, but overall I was by her side the whole time and she did amazingly well. The male (the sire) also was wanting to help her by licking her. However, I gently let him out thinking it might stress her out. I often wonder if I had let him help her if it would have actually help dislodge the kitten.

Anyway, I am expecting this year's pregnancy to be much better and she is due on march 30. So in 3 weeks. This year, her nipples looks much bigger already than they were last year. Or so it seems to me. I have been moisturizing them with a very delicate cream that can be used on women's nipples as well, since I noticed some dark particles which I assumed is like small scabs. She seems to like the attentions. I also bought a product called hibitane for obstetric use which I heard it would be good to clean her nipples once in a while when she will be lactating to prevent infections.

This is a picture of my two cats when they were still younger.

So these are registered pedigree cats?  You say 'colour-point' and there are lots of breeds were colour-point is an approved pattern or the only pattern.  If they are I suggest you ask this be moved to the Showing & Ethical Breeding forum.

I think better here, as so far it is cat pregnancy, them being pure breds (or not) doesnt matter here.

If we want to discuss breeding of them, change of other suitable studs, showing and so on, off to the Breeding Forum.  :)

Hi CatDoll!

Nice your stud is friendly and does help her. Did he continued to help her later, perhaps even being a help mom?

Nay, I dont think it mattered much physically for this first born kitten.  His licking on the mom would perhaps helped her feel better, but physically it didnt mattered.

I mean, if they are really good friends, and she accepted fully he was there at the nest, it means she didnt minded him being there, he was surely welcome.  That is not unusual.

What is this very delicate cream to set up on nipples too?  This tip may be useful for us too...

Participating in our Forums is often a taking and giving, exchanging and sharing much info, knowledge, joy and sorrows.

Welcome to our Forums!

Good luck!

My cats are not pedigree registered, but thank you for the suggestion OrientalSlave. I will check out that forum.

StefanZ, thank you for sharing your experience and opinion about the issue with the first born kitten. The male cat did not really continue to help but I think that also because the kittens were often inside a box, out of his reach, so he didn't interact with them. But once the kittens started to come out, the father cat was friendly and also licked them which was very cute to see, They also would sleep together, like the kitten was pillow and the father's head was the blanket.

The delicate cream is a cream offered as to be used on babies butts when they are newborn and wear diapers (they call it bum cream). So you can probably find something similar with a search. Some of ingredients are Lanolin, paraffin and zinc oxide, So it is delicate on skin that tends to be irritated, it also help preventing lacerations. Also helps scabs to soften and helps the skin to heal. I use it on my face when I have problems with acne or dry skin due to night drooling and couldn't live without it ;)

Today I could feel the kittens moving (kicking, I guess). It was the first time for me to feel that. She had big pupils and didn't like me to touch her belly at start, but then she got comfy and rolled on her back and let us feel a bit more. Still I couldn't estimate how many there are.
