Anne's post about Spring Cleaning with the cats made me think........

I plan to start my spring cleaning this Saturday and it will probably take me a good 4-5 days to get it all done. I want to wash all the walls down, clean the carpet in the living room, clean the furniture, etc. Everything will get moved, cleaned, and put back in its place. I'm planning on cleaning out drawers, closets, cabinets, and my desk (I've learned to leave dear Richard's desk alone!). I'm taking down curtains and washing them and then rehanging them. Lemon oil on all the wooden furniture.

Then I'm heading into the basement to do some re-organizing down there. A good vacuuming. Cleaning out the freezers a bit....it's a good time for freezer cleaning as we've been eating from the freezers all winter and it's nice to get them cleaned out for filling them again this coming summer. Getting rid of basement cobwebs.....I hate cobwebs. All that good stuff.

I'd dearly love to paint the bedroom while he's gone, too, but I'm not sure I'm going to have time for that.

It's a good time to get stuff packed up for our summer yard sale, too. (I'm actually going to pack up some of my cookbooks for the yard sale!!! I think)

I think he's taking Clarence to the airport, so I'm going to have the truck at home.....good time for a trip to the landfill, too. If I don't get that done, though, Rick can do that when he gets home.

So.....spring cleaning anybody? Do you rip through the house with major cleaning after the winter?

Yes and no. My biggest cleaning of the year is normally right before Thanksgiving. I host, so I like the house to be at its best. In Spring we always go through the shed, the garage, etc. As far as the house, I try not to do a big cleaning until "pollen season" is done. We had a huge pine tree right up again our house that coats the inside with thick coat of yellow pollen every spring, some years worse than others. I could never see the point of doing a big cleaning until the pollen had stopped. I have been dying to cut it down, because of my allergies. Aaron liked the tree though and really didn't want to cut it down. I was getting him on the cut it down bandwagon when he noticed some of the wood was rotting on the house around where the tree was. Then the blizzard came. :D Many huge branches broke off and one damaged our roof. The tree was cut down on Tuesday.

Not too much.  I have good intentions but follow through is hard.  I have a really hard time letting my 3 year old "help."  It takes restraint for me to let her fold the wash cloths. (fold= crumple
)

My mother took DD overnight last weekend so I had DH help me move couches so I could vacuum under them and clean the base boards.  I also sorted toys.  Next weekend I'm hoping to do windows.  I'd like to do the cabinets too.  Half the house has already had a good dusting.  I need to do the rest (I always dust the ceiling fans anyway when I dust).  Then I can go for the china cabinet.  I guess my actual wood furniture will be last.  I need to figure out what to use on my leather dining chairs too.  They've got a few scratches from the cats and my own nails.

I'm itching to paint both bathrooms and the master bedroom.  White walls begone!

Want to tell me what that's all about? Other than being snarky?

I am a 58 year old woman who truly enjoys spring cleaning and who takes pride in a clean home. I'm quite sorry that seems to bother you so much. Kindly pardon my posts.

Please forgive. I really didn't mean it in a snarky manner. I didn't realize it would be a a hurtful remark. I am older than you and I only meant I wish I still had that kind of energy. Kindly pardon me and let's start over.

Yes i'll be pulling things out and getting the swags and tails on the curtains vacuumed. I'll be giving the conservatory a good clean as well because we'll be sitting in it once the warmer weather comes

I'm truly sorry for my response. Yes, I did take your post the wrong way and it hurt. I realize now what you meant and I deeply apologize.

Guess what I did over the weekend!!!!!!!! I took apart ALL of the lower pull out windows/screens. Scrubbed them all down and washed all of the window sills and window trims. I still have two more to go. It is a big job and very time consuming. Holy Moly, were they ever dirty. I also LOVE a clean house. I have a huge, long list of Spring cleaning jobs on this new house. I am even going to clean walls! I find that if I make a list it helps me get started. I love crossing things off of a list. :D I also completely enjoy painting, and painting anything. I am going to paint the Master bdrm. walls. Just have to pick out paint colors. Lots to do for sure!

Israel goes crazy with Spring Cleaning this time of year. It's called "Passover cleaning" here and traditionally is all about getting rid of every last crumb of Chometz (anything containing traces of fermented flour in any form, size of shape). Of course, in order to really make sure you got your house ridden of every molecule of the stuff, you need to pretty much tear it apart with Spring Cleaning
I feel sorry for Orthodox Jewish women around this time of year and I'm thankful we're not as strict (or rather, not strict at all, I don't mind having Chometz in the house during Passover).

But, Passover or no Passover, I will definitely be doing lots of extra cleaning soon! I like leaving the house extra clean and tidy when we leave for our big road trip this summer.

Your post just reminded me of something that happened while I worked at Temple Shalom here in Naples, FL. I had a phone call from a lady who said that last year she did not have a dog, but this year she has a dog, and wants to know what to do about the dog food during Passover. I relayed the message to the Rabbi and his answser was "tell her not to eat the dog food". I'll never forget his answer! One of the many funny things that happened during my 8 years working at the Temple.

I'm glad you have a sane Rabbi
Over here, they go crazy with the kosher thing. At some point, they even labeled cleaning products as kosher for Passover! They only stopped because someone figured it could make people think these products are edible.
