Do you or does anyone if your family have food allergies or sensitivities?

We recently found out my husband is allergic to dairy. I have never cooked with loads of cheese, but DO love cooking with butter and sometimes milk or cream or sour cream. I can't stand the smell of non-dairy margarines so I'm really having to modify our meals. (I've learned that cheese substitutes are particularly vile, so I'm cooking meals that never include cheese in the first place!)

I can't eat onions and garlic except in small amounts and only very well cooked. This sucks because I love things like onion rings, fried onions on burgers, baked onions, etc and more than the amount in one onion ring makes me very unwell.

Is he lactose intolerant, or does he have a true histamine reaction? If he's lactose intolerant, he can probably eat aged cheeses---there's almost no lactose in them (the more aged, the less lactose, because the cheese enzymes eat lactose). I don't like milk but I would hate to not be able to eat cheese!

I don't have any severe allergies. But if I eat a citrus fruit or tomato and let the juice touch my skin (run down my chin or arm), I'll get a rash where it touches. Mango skin causes a similar reaction (but that's common because it has the same chemical as poison ivy but in smaller amounts). Cow's milk sometimes gives me an itchy throat.

My grandma says she's allergic to coconut. But since she has "reactions" to coconut-scented body spray/deodorant/etc., that has no actual coconut in it, and has no reaction to something containing a coconut-based ingredient as long as she doesn't know about it, I think she just plain doesn't like it. Dislike is not the same as an allergy! :tongue2:

Most fruit makes me break out in bleeding blisters that are really gross. It started with cherries, but now I'm down to only being able to eat (peeled) apples and pears, bananas (which I don't like) and a few types of round berries like blueberries or cranberries, provided I limit myself to two or three small ones. Tomatoes (technically fruit) are okay, except for the small cherry ones. I can't eat jam, obviously.

I'm sensitive to kiwi and avocados.  Both things I love.  I can eat them in things; but if I eat them alone I end up with an itchy throat or tongue.

My DD has a "mild to moderate" peanut allergy according to her bloodwork.  Peanut oil doesn't bother her but the few small exposures to actual peanut butter have given her a few hives on her cheeks for a few minutes.  Her pediatrician said she will likely outgrow this one in time; but for now I carry an epi pen as a precaution.  DH and I are both peanut lovers.  Especially DH.  We haven't removed it totally from our house; but things do stay up high and only come out when she isn't around.  And we do a lot of label checking just to be sure.

No allergies or sensitivities here. At least none that I'm aware of yet!

I don't think the BF is allergic/sensitive either.

I'm gluten free. I also have allergies or intolerances to peppers (this one's hard as things like chili powder are not always labeled), beef, and annatto (a natural yellow food color).

Also allergic to NSAIDS, and "dani asu" some sort of pesticide which I sprayed for tatami mat ticks. Had hives for a monthy, had to move and it cost me $4000 and possibly my job.

I'd never been allergic to anything. Within in the past two years, though, I've developed an allergy to certain drugs: lisinipril (my BP meds), Advil, Aleve and other forms of ibuprofen, aspirin, Halls lozenges, and (as of this past Monday), evidently, I'm allergic to Coricidin HPB tablets.

Also Fosamax.

I hope I never develop an allergy to food!!!

I've been tested and have no known allergies, but sometimes when I eat meat substitutes or low carb items my throat will start to feel weird.

My family has lots of food allergies. My sister is allergic to chicken, wheat, soy and pork. My niece is allergic to chicken, wheat, milk, almonds, honey, soy, most fruit. I am allergic to apples, pears, peaches, I can eat them if they are peeled or cooked. I get ill when I have anything with artifical sweetners. I also have mild allergy to chocoate, I love it but can only have small amounts. My oldest daughter is allergic to tartrazine ( yellow food dye #5)  My youngest daughter is on the wait list to see an alergist. I think she is allergic to fruit, cinnamon and tomatos

Neither myself nor Larry have any allergies. Larry is very sensitive to citrus and spicy food, he has GURD. I don't seem to have any issues (KNOCK WOOD) with any foods or medications. ;)

I have had Gurd for a long time too but I eat and drink anything I want. I have acid reflux and have meds for it.

Shellfish allergy here.  I found out purely by accident too: I was peeling raw shrimp at work one day (and not wearing protective gloves), and my hands/fingers began swelling up like a balloon!  Luckily, a dose of benadryl brought it under control long enough to get me to the emergency room.  Never realized I was allergic, as I never eat shrimp/lobster/crab etc.  Seafood never interested me enough to want to eat it.
