Finally Canada's 1st Canadian idol was crowned last night. With Ruben Studdard in attendance Ryan Malcolm was voted as the 1st Canadian Idol. He has signed a record deal and will also appear on the American Idol Christmas CD and special. I think Canada choose the best of the top 2 (but I still think Billy Klippart should have won).

Here is the story. Idol

i wish I could have seen the competition. Did they show the bad auditions like they did on the American version? That alone makes it worth watching!

Billy Klippert rocks! I thought for sure that he would be the Canadian Idol! Ryan Malcolm is awesome too. I can't wait until next season...

They did show the bad auditions. And some of them were very very bad. I have some of the episodes taped, although I did not get the ep with all of the bad auditions together. One girl sang an original song, about how she should be the Canadian Idol, and the bad audition episode ended with the "best of the worst" in Toronto, all dressed up for performance, singing her song. It was really their moment of glory, and was either really funny, or very very bad.

And I wanted Jenny to win. Or Richie.

Every time I see Richie sing I smile - he is just a sweetie and looks so happy when he is singing, unfortunately he wasn't the best singer in the group. Jenny was very unique - distinctly Canadian in her sound. Tyler for some reason gave me the creeps. I am looking forward to world Idol and seeing Ryan on the American Idol Christmas special.

Oh, I agree about Tyler. Everyone was all gaga about him, and I thought he was just way to slick. Like he was trying too hard. And on Tuesday's show, he sounded really off key on his solos, which makes me think that he did a lot of preparation for the songs he used for audition.

For those of you who didn't get to see this, Richie was a doll, he looks like Scott Hamilton, the skater, and sings everything in a really fast, upbeat tempo. And smiles all the time. No special effects, just pure clear singing. And Jenny is unique, a throaty alto voice, also no vibrato or annoying affectations. She auditioned with Leonard Cohen songs. The week she was voted off, she sang Bowie's Rocket Man, because she thought that would be funny. It was.

Jenny just dripped with character, I couldn't believe when I saw her in the original auditions. She will have a contract, no problem.

Was Tyler the country guy (tall, black hair)? If it was, he made me sick when I saw him in his last performance with the tight leather pants. I thought we was going to start doing the Elvis pelvic thrusts!!
He's better off in a vegas piano bar, far away from my TV!

I
Billy, but was blown away with Ryan's first song on the final night they had to perform. I think he sang the song that was suppose to be his first solo track? He was amazing and at that point I knew he should be the Canadian Idol.

I thought our contestants had a huge range of talent, not at all cookie cutter or prepackaged. It was nice to see that uniqueness and talent can get you places.

(But I hated Ben Mulroney as host & his sidekick that supposedly was trying to be funny. I turned off the TV sometimes because of it!)

Yup - Tyler was the darked hair guy.

Ben was a horrid host and Sass Jorden just really irritated me as a judge. I liked Jake Gold and Farley Flex, but could live without Zach Zarner as a judge. Plus Zack wore ugly clothes.

Jenny should have a great recording carreer. I wonder if she will record with her group, the Whisky Cats? She does need to tone done some of the facial contortions - I love hearing her sing, but I can't stand watching her. But I do prefer her with the straight hair.

What do you thisnk of Audrey DeMontigny? She could have one the whole thing, but she made some poor song choices near the end.
