Discussion in this thread is why I stopped feeding commercial food and began feeding my cats food I make: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/239691/nutritionally-complete-assurances-for-our-pet-food

And this paper, specifically: http://leda.law.harvard.edu/leda/data/784/Patrick06.html

Why anyone would want to feed fruits and veggies to their cats, I don't know. They're obligate carnivores, and don't naturally eat them in the wild. They're simply not "constructed" to digest carbohydrates well, and sugar wreaks havoc on their systems.

I like feeding my cats food I could eat myself. Of course - I'd cook it before I ate it. :lol3:

thank you for sharing that info LDG. very informative.

as i was actually reading the definitions earlier, i thought about the fact that it seemed as tho there was parts left out of those definition. with what you have said, i now know why i felt that way. THEY DO leave things out.

i was actually talking to a petco worker yesterday..and a friend of mine..about the fact that there is so much stuff in animal foods that they would not normally eat. so why the heck would companies put that junk in the food? i understand why...but it is so not right.

personally, i never thought to actually feed my cats only canned food or raw for that matter. i really wouldn't feed them raw. i just don't have the patience for all that. canned is better option for me. but of course i am transitioning to a MUCH BETTER brand now. so i feel good about that much for sure.

as for fruits and veggies...i don't actually OFFER them to my cats. it just happens once in a while if they are curious as to what i am eating. Sassy is the only one that really shows interest in fruits and peanut butter. Bella can smell certain meats and cheese from a mile away...lol.
now that i h ave a little more knowledge of what is good and bad, i will definitely change more of what we give my grrlz.
