We got my cat from a hoarding situation when she was 4-6 weeks old and the day after we got her she became very sick. She was emaciatingly thin to begin with, but she soon did not want to eat at all and would throw up all the time. One time she threw up so bad her eyes nearly rolled back in her head. We then took her to the vet. They told us to expect the worst. I am almost positive they tested her blood and that she came back negative for FeLV, FIV and such, it just happened so long ago I cannot remember. They gave her anti parasite medicine, injected her with a tonic as well as an antiinflammatory for her digestive system. Lo and behold later that day she expelled a large amount of tapeworms, literally a baseball sized glob. We then fed her high calorie liquid and some electrolyte/vitamin liquid, both were fed through a syringe. The next day we syringe fed her canned food. She gained weight within a week and acted normally and played with our other two year old cat. The vets never told us to come back and retest for FeLV. We have had her for 2 years now and she has never been sick. Should I just stop worrying about FeLV because of her quick recovery when she was a kitten after having been rid of her worms? Since then she has been spayed and has had normal checkups like our other cat who has never been sick either. I am am a bit of a hypochondriac and I just need reassurance.

I realize I may be freaking out about nothing especially since she has never been sick, but if she did ever contract this disease (again I am not even sure about the environment she was in before we took her in) wouldn't she have shown a symptom by now especially if she already was weak from so many worms? The reason why I am asking about this is because I read a story about a mother cat that passed the disease along to her kittens, and that they were in terrible situation and I guess it just sparked a paranoia in me!!:sigh:

Did you consult with the Vet who did the original test to see what they think?  If you are going to worry about it, then you should probably have her re-tested to know for sure.  And if she does test positive (let's hope not), it doesn't mean an instant death sentence.  Some cats can live several years with it, and that's after diagnosis, which normally would occur because they are presenting symptoms, which your little one isn't.

that there is nothing to worry about.
