My DIL purchased new cookware a few months ago. She now has the same cookware that I do. Tramontina 18/10 stainless steel tri-ply. She would like to have the 12-inch jumbo skillet. It is NOT nonstick; neither she nor I use nonstick anymore. I cannot find it anywhere. I tore the online stores apart, looking for it. I looked all over Amazon and eBay, too. Nobody has it.

Does anybody know where I can find this skillet for her?

Thanks!

I'm wondering about something. Would she be okay with a saute pan, or would nothing else but a skillet do? (Saute pans are available at several web sites. Skillets? I hope someone else will have a link for you because I couldn't find anything,)

(I just got a few pieces of new cookware for us, so I was very interested in your question.  And I would've loved to help.)

I think the skillet is known as the "cooker". I did a google search, both web and image.  All came up as the skillet = cooker.

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Tramontina-12-18-10-Tri-Ply-Clad-Stainless-Steel-Jumbo-Cooker/5716485

You can get it at qvc.com

http://www.qvc.com/.product.K123831.html

Or at Amazon

Or at Shopping.com

Wow, that's a huge difference in prices! The one at WalMart says "Sold Out Online" and it was only $70. All the others were over $100. The WalMart one is definitely the 12-inch jumbo cooker she's looking for. I think what I'll do is keep my eyes open online and see if it comes back into stock. If it doesn't before Christmas, I'll give her the money and she can wait and buy it when it comes back.

Thank you! (And thanks, Violet, too, for looking!)

I call it Poor Man's All Clad, because it is that nice. I have some pieces of All Clad and pieces of Tramontina and I swear it's difficult to tell them apart. And with the tri-ply and the fact that it's 18/10 stainless, (and it's not nonstick, although Tramontina makes other stuff that is) well it's just perfect. Some of the Tramontina items I've seen are made in Italy; others are made in Brazil. (Nothing in the line is made in China, as far as I know.)

A couple years ago Cooks Illustrated did a cookware test and, while All Clad came in first place (it always does), Tramontina (the 18/10 stainless tri-ply) was a very, very close second. They said the only reason it didn't come in first was because the sizes are a little small for most families. But there are just the two of us and the Tramontina works beautifully. I cook for crowds, too, and don't really have any trouble. When my kids were looking for a nice set of cookware, I highly recommended Tramontina and said that if they got it and didn't like it, I'd buy it from them. They bought it and they agree that it's wonderful stuff. (BTW, their old cookware was a set of expensive Pampered Chef that she got by holding PC parties. Those pieces of cookware didn't last her at all, especially considering what all she had to do to get the stuff.)

Last weekend my DIL texted me. She had had oil heating in her Tramontina skillet. Well, she forgot about it.....until the smoke detector went off. She was left with a very blackened pan and she was very upset. I called her and we discussed the best way to try to clean her pan. She went through the steps and the pan cleaned up beautifully! That really sold her on the Tramontina. That's when she told me she was looking for the jumbo cooker and I've been trying to find it, too. (I do think that $119 is a little pricey for the cooker, though, but maybe that's just me. I paid less than $150 for a whole set of Tramontina cookware!)

I've had my set of Tramontina now for about five years or so and I love it. It's not expensive by any stretch (hence me calling it Poor Man's All Clad) and it cleans perfectly. It's nice and heavy, it's not nonstick and when I brown pork and other meats, I gets lots of lovely fond to make sauces with.

I cannot say enough good things about Tramontina and I highly recommend it to anybody. But I'm only talking about the 18/10 stainless tri-ply. I've never used the other cookware in the line, so can't say anything about it.

I'm pretty picky about some things. I love my Tramontina and I dearly love my Fiesta, too.

Sounds like nice stuff! My pans are Revere and are over 20 years old and still kicking. I had the rivet pop on one saucepan this year, but found a replacement.

$119.00 for a good quality 18/10 ss pot is not that expensive.

About 15  years ago I went shopping for a good set of ss pots.  I had seen and heard so many good things about Logastina, which is a high end brand, popular in the culinary world.  So I had my eyes on that.

However, The Bay had their Governor's Table brand on sale for 1/2 price.  Even at 1/2 price it was pricey.  I did some research and found that Governor's Table and Logastina were pretty comparable, so I got the Governor's Table.  I spent about $600.00.  For that I got:

1 stock pot with lid

2 medium sauce pots with lids

1 small sauce pot with lid

1 steamer (fits on the medium sauce pot)

1 frying pan (the lid from the stock pot fits)

At first I wasn't sure that I liked them because they were so heavy. But I quickly learned to absolutely love them.  I love kitchen stuff and I had a hard getting rid of my cheap pots, but eventually I did. I did keep a cheap stock pot though.  I don't know how to cook a single pot of soup, so it's always handy to have a second stock pot, even if one is cheap aluminum!

I did find that cleaning ss is different than cleaning cheap pots.  Stainless steel can stain on the bottom. I went back to The Bay and asked for some cleaning tips and was advised to use a stainless steel powder cleanser (probably similar to Comet)  So I bought 2 bottles and every so often I use it to bring back the sparkle and shine to all of my pots.

I now want a set of cast iron fry pans. But those need to be used because apparently the more cast iron is used, the better it works. I think my brother got my Mom's old cast iron pans, but he loves to cook more than I do, so I haven't bothered to ask him.

No, it's not overly expensive....and had I not seen it for way less than that, I wouldn't have blinked an eye about the price.

As for cast iron......I have my grandmother's set of cast iron frying pans and I can honestly say there's nothing better to cook in. I need to be careful that I don't move them around too much on the stove as I have a glass top cook stove and moving the pans around will scratch the stove. But I love the way cast iron heats up and the way it retains the heat. And it goes into the oven, even at high temperatures (much of the cookware today won't take an oven temp higher than about 425 degrees). Grandma's big fry pan is so heavy that when it's full of food, I need two hands to lift it. Makes delicious fried chicken! Makes a good filled pork chop, too.

I also have a set that was made in Korea (a long time ago) and they're not as heavy. It seems that they rust easily, too. I don't use them that often anymore.

Lodge used to make good cast iron pans, but I believe that they moved some (if not all) of their line to China.

She is thrilled to death! I used one of my graphics programs to make up a gift certificate for her with the picture of the skillet. It's supposed to be in the store next Wednesday, so I told her the certificate would expire then. Once I get it, we'll take it down to her. She was so happy with the gift certificate (I got lots of hugs!!!!), I can't imagine how she'll react with the actual skillet!

Just bought tramontinia tri-ply clad cookware from Walmart, on line.
Looks beautiful but is made in China, not sure if that matters.
It does not say 18/10 stainless on it either, that is a suprise.
Now I'm thinking that I should return them.

If the box doesn't say 18/10, then it's not the really heavy tri-ply cookware. The Tramontina that I have specifically said that it was 18/10 tri-ply. And it's heavy...the pieces are heavy. I will say that it's every bit as nice as All Clad, IMO.

Thanks for the info. The box doesn't say 18/10 but walmarts web site says that the 10 piece tri-ply clad set is 18/10.
I'm so confused, I think I will call the company directly and just ask them. They are very heavy and look beautiful.

Out of curiosity. Do you know the size in centimetres?
