My BIL and I had decided to try out parasailing on our trip in April. It's one thing I am afraid to do, but been dying to try out! I have a feeling he will chicken out and I will be on the sail by myself!

My question is.. What is something you've always wanted to try? Whether you are afraid to try it out, or it's out of reach?

I'd love to take a hot air balloon ride.. but I am also scared to even consider it! It's so high and looks so hard to control!

I would love to go on a hot ar balloon ride also! When we lived in Ft. Lauderdale they had yearly hot air balloon races from the local airport to the Bahamas One time they were directly over our house and we could actually see and wave to the people in the balloons.

Also (and I don't know if this even still exisits) I alway wanted to go on a trip on the Orient Express. Is there still such a train?

Zip-lining!  (Is that what they call it?
)  Like up in the mountains where you come down through the trees and things.  My problem is that I don't want plants and leaves and who knows what touching me.  It sounds funny...but I seriously do not like touching plants...esp near my face.  Phobia I've had since I was little.  But other than that it's got to feel like flying and all you have to do is hold on and trust the people sending you down the line.  I can do that.

I've been lucky enough, or maybe persistant enough, to do any scary thing I was interested in. Being an adrenalin junky made it all possible, including the dreaded downhill skiing . I;ve climbed mountains, hiked remote areas, rode in a chuckwagon, horseback trips through mountains, galloped Thoroughbred race horses and trained and raced Standardbreds and did other things lots of people want to do and all of it was work, not an adventure (think ranch vacation for this one). The only thing I never managed is hot air ballooning simply because it costs too much even for a short ride but heights don't bother me a whole lot......*SIGH*

Complete a marathon!  I have done a number of 5K and one 10K race and a mud run but have never worked up the nerve to try a full marathon.   I guess it's a little bit fear of failure and a little bit fear of "oh crap, I have to run 26 miles".

Hang gliding. They had hang gliding during the summer off the cliffs of the Potomac River years ago and I loved to watch them. I would probably be terrified but I'm sure there is training that comes BEFORE actually jumping off the cliff. I just think it would be wonderful to fly and be in control.

One other thing I've always wanted to do is drive Route 66.

Scuba diving - can't do it because of my asthma.
Hon, you would be surprised at how many people with asthma dive. My ex-boyfriend, who got me into diving, had asthma and he was an instructor. Of course, his wasn't very severe. I would think you could at least do a "discover scuba" which is offered by most certifying agencies (PADI, NAUI, etc). That is just an introductory dive where an instructor basically holds your hand the whole time and takes you on a guided tour. No physical required, and you don't have to tell them you have asthma but you DO have to sign a waiver that you qualify and don't hold them responsible if something should happen (at least it was this way in 2002 when I left the dive shop). Honestly, I would think the extra oxygen you get under water at depth (30ft max for an intro dive) would help asthma but I'm not sure.

I would just hate for you not to have the experience at least once. I don't want you to risk your life or saying you could get certified but you may want to talk to your doctor to see if you could do it at least once. Underwater is incredible! I do recommend doing it in a tropical area though!

I remember you talking about your plant-thing before, when we were talking about gardening. I thought you were being very brave to overcome it so that you could garden.

I just want to get over my flying phobia so that I could join Rick when he goes to Oregon. And then we could go to Ireland.

Oh me too! I've always wanted to go hang gliding. Almost did once years ago in windy Wales, but the one day I had to do it, it was so calm we had to cancel. Now I'm older and seem to get more scared about trying things, and my DH is against it, so I don't think I'll ever get to try it.
