Where is this hair coming from, if you don't mind me asking?  I don't see hair in the food.  Please post pictures!!!  I never took pictures until yesterday after seeing Ms. Carolina's.  That made me feel like I wasn't being a good mum, so I got on the bandwagon too!  The poops are smaller today, haven't taken any pics though, I thought I would give them their space.
Well, then I must not be a very good mum, because I've not taken pictures of poop before. :anon: I'll keep on the look out, but I won't be dissecting all poop! :lol3:

I can tell there's hair because it pokes out of the end like a twist tie of hair. And otto explained the rest. :lol3: Today they're having lamb and turkey breast, so I will probably be able to take a picture of multi-colored poop. Even better if it's from one of the cats that doesn't cover! :flail:

I think I'll be drawing the line at any disecting myself...even with gloved hands and popsickle sticks.   I have a weak gag reflex.  The Stella's smells bad enough

However, I have confessed to not being the super mom like some of y'all.    But then again I have never had a cat with any extended bouts of stuff getting clogged up or running out, so I've never paid that much attention to what's their personal business unless I see something is off.

One errant cling-on and look what happened to this thread!

Now I'm seeing my dream of toilet training the kittens is going down the crapper.  Seriously
I bought the instructions on e-bay for $1.99.   The system makes a lot of sense, I was waiting untlil they were a little older to try it

Just realized it was Halloween

Granted, I did not disect to see if there was actually hair in the middle, but they sure as heck looked like cute little sea shells.  I was so happy to have the camera ready....

I'm not sure 20 nuggets of S&C is enough for a 9 pound cat, but don't know for sure. What's his activity level? Are you weighing them weekly? If he begins to lose weight you will know he needs more. Have you tried tasty garnishes to get him interested in the rad cat?

Queen Eva eats 10 nuggets of S&C a day, in addition to an ounce of rad cat, a half ounce of boneless prey model supplemented with calcium, and 2.5 ounces of canned. And she's only 7 pounds. She's only just past two though so she is very active.

Congratulations on the transition, and thanks for the poop picture, those are some very nice classic raw fed kitten poops!

The Stella and Chewy's freeze dried package says one cup feeds an 8 pound cat for one day.  (I like to use package suggestions as a starting point, even though they usually end up being a bit high.)  So I'd see how many nuggets are in one cup and compare to see if you are on the right track.  (I've thought about measuring and counting myself, but we are only using it as toppers and snacks right now.)

One cup of Stella&Chewy's is 35 nuggets. I counted them out when I first started using the food. :)

So Cricket most likely will need more food than 15-20 nuggets a day.

That's helpful.  Oh yeah, the package instructions,
why didn't I think of that?  I am not a measurer, I just guess at what they will typically eat and give them as much as they will eat in about 15 min.   Cricket is not always finishing his Stellla's.  He just eats small meals, always has, so I may even need to add another meal.  This morning, he was the first one up, patiently waiting for breakfast and circling my legs while I was getting everything ready. Even vocalizing.  He still didn't finish the Stella's tho. He is choosing the Stella's over canned and doesn't seem to like canned now.  Go figure.

I need to get a scale.  I don't have one of those either, not even the human kind.  Right now, as long as I can't (or can only barely) feel their spine I am happy with their weight.   Cricket was just at the vets about a month ago.  The vet thinks he's in great shape - almost the perfect weight.  But since he's now 13 it never hurts to have a little bit extra he said. The goal was to add about a half pound. His blood values were right smack in the middle on everything tested, a basic panel, which is amazing!   I'm thrilled that he has taken the transition this well, but I imagine if I put out a bowl of kibbles right now,  NOT!  he would be happy.  I will need to keep a better eye on Cricket and make sure he's eating enough.

Yep, I was pretty proud of what appeard to me as classic raw poop shells.   Can I put away the camera for now or is it too soon?

   Sounds like a GREAT transition! :D :bigthumb:

My free-fed kibble kitties didn't eat enough when we first transitioned to timed meals - that was a process. It does sound like if you're able, you may want to add another meal or two for Cricket. But FYI, my kitties (my youngest is 5 or 6, my oldest 4 are all 10 years old and not overly active, even though they're more active now on raw) don't eat CLOSE to recommended amounts of anything, and even on raw, they eat at the low-end. But if you want Cricket to gain weight, it sounds like a little more food may be in order.

And yes, I think you can probably put the camera away! You even got multi-colored poop in there!

...so does that mean I don't need to keep my camera with my when I scoop? :lol3:

Off topic - I told my friend in Florida to read this thread and when we talked last night he was wondering where all these crazy emoticons are coming from.  His big calico died several years ago, and he won't get another one until he stops having to be gone so much.  Oh, and he thinks this site is really good.

Hi catspaw's friend from
 Florida
(we get way more sun here in Colorado, BTW)....Please join us.  We usually post fresh pictures around mealtime, that's usually the best time to peruse the poop pics since we are all so passionate about the subject.  Please read and follow the PLA Motto....

I'm sure you are talking about the super emoticons that the super parents such as Ms. Carolina and Feralvr are showing off.  I am using the basic ones (I'm just a basic parent) on this site.  If you click on the happy face icon on the toolbar, there are all kinds of fun emoticons.

BTW, when I was doing A LOT of travel - I covered five western states, I decided the solution was 2 cats.....and a good pet sitter.

AH! So you want me to do the poop dissecting FOR you! That's just brilliant, I LOVE it!

And catspaw, for your friend, if you right-click on the image, you can either save it to the laptop or open it in a new window. Then to use it, it just needs to be inserted as a pic in a post. If it was uploaded from someone's laptop, the address will be a catsite.com address. But if someone provided a link to the site from which it originates, you can right click and choose the option to "open image in a new window." Then you can see the address, and bookmark the image for future use - or go to that site to find more. :)

Personally, I don't care what the inside looks like, as long as it's coming out forming a nice shell with a decent smell
It's otto that I'm concerned about, that's the one doing the disecting.  At least, with the support of PLA, otto has now admitted to having a problem and is at least using a popsickle stick to inspect the insides of what's coming out of poor Mazy (when she's not looking)

I am now saving these precious shells and was wondering what to do with them. Do you think there would be a market for poop encrusted shell jewelry, ear rings, ankle bracelets, etc?  No you nerds....not for us PLAers, but for normal folks.
