Yesterday marked 7 days in a row with no regurgitation for Mazy. A record. Today will be 8.

Eight days without regurgitating! :banana1: And that is with no pepcid either! Up until this last stretch I couldn't seem to get her past the five day mark. Once in a very great while she could make it six days. In addition, she is eating with a much better appetite than she ever has.

There are two main reasons for this great improvement I think:

I credit the raw meals for improved digestion for sure,(she gets one ounce of Rad Cat ground raw a day, and two tenths of an ounce of small raw pieces of whole meat, in addition to her canned), but I also think that getting her off the petroleum hair ball products has made a huge huge difference for her. She had been taking that stuff for her entire life, every other day from March through October, and every 2 or 3 days all winter. Now she gets the egg yolk lecithin twice a week, and a little bit of the Vet's-Best (about 1/4 tablet max) daily dusted over her 2/10 ounce of meat pieces.

I am so happy to have my cats free of petroleum products, it's been a long hard search. Jennie gets her tablespoon of pumpkin every day, and once a week I skip the pumpkin and give her the egg yolk lecithin instead. Queen Eva also gets the egg yolk lecithin once a week. Mazy gets it twice a week.

Since a half capsule is one dose, that's how I worked it out. On Sunday Mazy gets a half capsule of the egg lecithin and Queen Eva gets the other half. On Wednesday Mazy gets a half capsule and Jennie gets the other half.

Thanks Sally. I am sooo happy, I keep getting all teary eyed. After years of daily regurgitation, this is like....a miracle. While the raw has definitely improved her digestion, I think getting her off the petroleum based hair ball remedies was the real catalyst.

I'm feeding Callie one entire capsule of the egg yoke lecithin per day...hope that isn't too much.  She was tossing up hairballs left and right, so I increased the amount.  Someone tossed one the other day while we were out, but don't think it was her.  (kind hard to tell when they're still wet
, but appeared to be all black (like the other two cats
))

This morning Mazy ate 1.4 ounces of food within a one hour span. This is HUGE deal. That much food usually has to be spread over at least two hours, to prevent regurgitation. I am speechless with joy!

She has now gone 12 days with out regurgitation, or any signs of digestive upset. Sometimes, even if she didn't bring the food back up she will sit in a "tummy ache" posture and lick and swallow, lick and swallow. I am seeing none of that any more

(PS when she does that lick and swallow, I used to give her pepcid, but I've discovered a little home grown cat nip will settle her stomach just as well)

I am so thrilled by this improvement in my Mazy cat.

I'm no expert on egg yolk lecithin, having only just started it myself. But..since a half capsule twice a week seems to be the recommended dose, that does sound like a lot. But if it is working for Callie...maybe a gradual reduction to see how she does on less.

TWO WEEKS!!!!!!!! Mazy cat hasn't regurgitated in two weeks! I can't believe it! I am so happy I get tears in my eyes. And she is eating meals larger than she ever has before. She can eat .55 ounces (point five five) of meat CHUNKS and keep them down. I know I sound like a broken record, but never would I have believed that a partial raw diet could do so much for her.

That, and getting her off the petroleum hair ball products.

PS I almost forgot, she's not taking pepcid any more either. Hasn't had one in 3 weeks. Last time I noticed her showing signs of tummy upset (licking lips, swallowing) I gave her a bud of home grown dried cat nip instead and that seemed to do the trick!

It's great to hear your kitty is doing so much better.
What kind of egg yolk lecithin do you use and where do you get it ? I have one with hairballs and prefer natural remedies too.

I am using this product, from recommendations of other members on this site:

Remember to put it in the refrigerator after opening.

1/2 capsule twice a week.

Cat nip to the rescue again! I thought Mazy's record was going to end this morning as she began to show signs of indigestion. She has two ways of acting. One is licking her lips and swallowing. Lick, lick swallow, lick lick swallow. The other is...she starts doing this snuffling thing like she is going to sneeze or choke. I suspect some bile rises up in her throat. When she starts this she jumps down and goes into her "vomit run" before bringing up the contents of her stomach.

I was watching her though, because even before she started the snuffling, she seemed a bit...off. As soon as she started I grabbed a bud of cat nip (home grown, harvested and dried, from my garden) and gave it to her. She ate it up, and...ta-da, symptoms stopped.

That's interesting.  Lucy does the lick, lick, swallow thing.  I think it is related to inflammation/drool in her mouth and throat.  But it is interesting to know that in other cats it can be related to indigestion.  Good to keep in mind.

I love keeping up with this thread and Mazy's progress.  It is such happy news when cats get healthier!

Well, I think it is along the same lines...inflammation. She doesn't have any mouth problems but because she has digestive problems...I imagine either her stomach or esophagus or both are pretty inflamed when she feels sick like that.

Thanks for your kind words!

I am so glad to hear about Mazy's improvement in health, and a full 2 weeks now

I read on TCS about evening primrose oil for inflammation.  Is this something you've tried ?

I have not tried evening primrose. Thanks for mentioning it in this thread. If ever I need to look further for solutions for Mazy, or any other cat for that matter, I will have this to remind me, and do some research on it. :)

Well, she made it 15 1/2 days. But I am pretty sure it was my fault. I got greedy. Mazy was doing so well eating larger meals, that I gave her too much all at once, and the whole breakfast came up. I feel bad, but oh well, we clean up and move on, and start counting again. :) The good news is that there was no fur at all in the vomit, which means the egg yolk lecithin is doing the job of breaking up the fat and letting her pass the fur through the other way.

Since I know Mazy feels really yucky after throwing up her food I did give her a pepcid this time (first one in a month) plus a nice bud of cat nip to wash it down. And now she has had another breakfast and all is well.

Aww, dang it anyway!  The other day when I had the vomiting episode I think it was because Rufus ate too fast. The catnip bud should ease her upset tummy and make her feel yummy again in no time.

I'm wondering now if it was too much, or if she is just having a recurrence of her tummy problem. She's been iffy this morning too, so I think now it was less about quantity, and just her tummy acting up again. :(

However, every 15 days is way better than every 5 days, so it's progress, either way.

You better believe that's progress.  You more than anyone know how delicate kitties tummies are. Did you look at her crosswise or anything?  BTW Is the catnip helping at all?

Thank you for your support. I do think the catnip helps her, but I did give her a pepcid dose yesterday. She seems to be feeling better now, improved over earlier this morning (after having more catnip). Earlier she had that crouched/pinched look. Here she is now purring out loud and trying to stay on my lap as I type. Rattling her tail at me because she wants me to stop typing and be still, so she can rest her chin on my wrist.

Awwww, how cute.
You should teach her to type!
