A happy (sort of) ending.

In another thread I mentioned that I trapped a feral kitten that was born to two ferals that we feed at our shop every night. I feed about 6-10 of them, and certain ones get really close to us..........the Dad and Mom of this kitten are two of our favorites and not very afraid of us.  The had two kittens but within a week or so one of them simply disappeared.  I made the decision that I was not going to see something bad happen to the little white one, which I named Snowball.  So a few weeks ago I put out a trap and caught her within 5 minutes.

I have been taking care of Snowball for the past several weeks since trapping her, and have to admit I was getting way too attached to her. Problem is, I just can't have more than the two we already have at home and it was no life for her living in the office of my shop. I mean, she was happy there and had lots of places to explore, food to eat, and toys to play with, but she deserves a home where people will be there with her 24/7. She is just the best little cat, very clean, and after two days she would climb up on my lap and go to sleep.

So I resigned myself to the fact I had to find her a real home. Luckily, my contact from a rescue group called me and asked if she was still available. A lady had seen her picture on their website and was interested. Tonight I took Snowball to a local Petco, where I met the lady, and I am really happy to say she will be the perfect new Mom for Snowball. Super nice lady, loves animals, and she held Snowball for a while and they got along great. She was so happy she said "I have tears in my eyes", and I said "So do I ."  I am so happy to see her get a good home, but sad to see her go.  But we have to do what is best sometimes, no matter how hard it is.

She will be picking her up on Thursday, and my plan right after that is to trap the Mom and Dad and have them fixed.   I have seen so many cats come and go in the 2-3 years we have been feeding them that I am tired of the revolving door of them having kitten after kitten, only to have them meet what we suspect is an early death.   So, anyway, we have saved at least one little life so far, and it feels really good.  Here are a couple of pictures of Snowball, sitting in the window between my office and shop.  She loves to watch us work out there.

Nice story! A very pretty kitten btw, including the looks of a purebred.   Perhaps old type siamese?  Mixes of colorpoint gene get often that look alike.

Good you write this. It was my next question.  If two of your favorites got kittens, they cant be neutered as yet...  And Alpha and Omega of "our trade" - caretakers, rescuers - is neutering!  Adoptions of the adoptable is also good and helps, but neutering is the key...

Good luck!

It's a good thing that Snowball has been adopted, because I would drive / fly / swim / almost anything to where you are to take that sweet little girl off your hands.  She is so precious!

Yep, I am really happy that she will be getting a good life instead of the one she would have had living in the wild.  She was getting bigger so it was going to be harder to find her a home, and she was getting very attached to me.  I brought her home the other night because she looked sad when I was leaving the shop, and when I woke up in the morning she was sleeping right on my pillow, with her head butted up against mine.

I am just really amazed that she is marked so perfectly, just like a Lynx Pointed is described as on line, and her Mom and Dad look nothing at all like her.  They are gray tabby cats.  But I have seen other litters from the ferals at our shop where some are black, some are tuxedo, some are gray, etc.  Another odd thing about the litters that are born around our shop is that they never seem to be more than one or two kittens at a time.   I don't know if it is because something happens to the rest of them or if the Moms simply have small litters.

Snowball is such a beautiful little thing that it doesn't surprise me that she found a new home so quickly. :vibes::vibes::vibes: that it's the perfect fit for her.

She reminds me so much of my
Psy, that I get choked up just looking at the pictures.  She was the love of my life for 17 years.

I know exactly what you mean about getting choked up over a loved pet you have lost.  I had Sniffy and Scooter for 17 years and then they just got old and sick and it was time to make that horrible decision.

If it had not been for the other kitties I was responsible for, I might have decided to "not be" after Psy
was gone.  My ladies keep me laughing and semi-sane.

Yeah, all we can do is give them the very best home and love we can for the short time they are with us, and take solice in the fact they were loved and cared for very well..
