Some of you might remember my feral boy, Tommy, who was hit by a car this summer. I never found his body, even after much searching and posting flyers. Well, a couple of weeks ago, a black cat was in my backyard very late at night (triggered the security light) but, of course it would be hard to see a black cat in the dark. I didn't think too much (although I was hoping it was Lucy or Tommy) even though I saw him a couple of times.

Well, this afternoon around dinner time, I saw this black cat hiding by the bird feeders. I walked toward where he was and he ran off, but not in a panic. Hoping against hope, I quickly set up the feeding area in the same place where it had been and put out a dish of wet food. When I went out to get the dish later, it had been licked clean.

What are the chances that Tommy survived the accident and is back? He looks very much like Tommy - same size and shape and has the fat (not fluffy) tail like Tommy. He was here at the "regular" dinner time and knew right where to look. I am so excited thinking he survived and is back home that I can't stop smiling.

Of course, I'm going to start feeding him again and already have a kitty tube set up. I just need to add a couple more bales of straw for protection and we're back in business.

I agree, the chance is pretty good it is he.  Ferales are made of tough wood, they are the survivors.. Otherwise they wouldnt be still with us.  Thus, they often survive on their own even severe wounds.

As you never found his body although thorough search - yeah, almost surely him.

Good luck!

I wouldn't be surprised if that is your Tommy. OH MY!!!!!!!! That would be a miracle and very possible. It does amaze me how these feral cats can survive such accidents. I do hope that is Tommy. :cross: Keep us posted, we want to know :D :clap::clap:

Well, Tommy has been here every night at about the same time as before. He is eating well, probably more than he was before. I wonder if he isn't able to hunt as well. At any rate, I haven't seen again, but it's his routine. I did wonder about the amount of food. Right now he gets 3/4 cup of kitten kibble mixed with a 5.5 oz can of Friskies pâté ( which is what he prefers) mixed with about a can of warm water. He licks the dish clean. Since he only comes once a day, I don't know where else he is eating. I am also going to get some dewormer because he likely needs that. Any thoughts?

Since I was never able to trap him,I know I will need to do that, but I want to wait until spring. He doesn't have that tomcat look so he may be a neutered male or even a female. Right now I just want to get him
on a schedule and hope he will get used to me again. I am just so glad that he survived the accident.

I am just floored over this miracle  It truly is incredible that he is back. He does sound terribly hungry to be downing that much food all at one time. But I would continue on this same schedule so when you try to trap him, it will go well. I can only imagine your surprise and awe that he is back.:clap::clap:

You know...I'm not surprised.  Certainly pleased, but not surprised.  I could make all sorts of possible explanations, but they would all be guesses.
