I'm fostering a 6-7 week old little girl who is doing well for the most part. After a bit of trouble at first she is now eating well. But for some reason she just won't drink water. I thought she may just not know how to drink from a bowl so I gave her some cat milk to see if she could drink that and she did. She will drink cat milk and formula but no water at all. She does pee several times a day though and her poop is normal.

What should I do? Is the fluids she gets from her canned food perhaps enough for her or should she continue to get cat milk? How do i get her to start drinking water on her own? This is completely new to me.

Thanks.

If she is eating a canned only diet, then she doesn't necessarily need to drink any water. My cat Grim hardly ever drinks, I never see it happen, the water bowl usually just dries out from evaporation.

Just a thought.  Try putting her on the edge of the bathroom sink.  Then turn on the faucet at a small stream.  Sometimes they will drink from running water.

Yes, if eating mainly canned food she will not be interested in drinking water. At her age it doesn't hurt to give kitten milk either, but as long as there is always a supply of fresh water, if she needs it, she will drink it, not to worry!
