Over the river and through the woods...
Tomorrow is Labor Day in the US (possibly Canada too?) which marks the end of summer. The kids are back in school, the days are getting shorter and the geese are flying south. So, today's question is:

What was the most memorable thing you did this summer (or, for our friends in the southern hemisphere, this winter)?

We were pretty much home bodies this summer so no vacations or trips. But the most memorable thing we did was tear a room off our house to expand it. I've never helped with a project like that so it was a real learning experience for me. I had no idea it would be so complicated! Good thing DH knows what he's doing. It's slow going and hard work, but it's been fun spending quality time with my husband
. And when it's done, it's going to feel so good to know that WE did this, just the two of us. We really should buy stock in Ben-Gay though

Didn't do anything special this summer.   Wish we had the ability to tackle the kind of project you guys did.  But we both are mechanically challenged.     Turns out we need to hire people to do projects.     Send us some of your mechanical ability -- or better yet, move down here near us!

We're just into Springtime!

The best thing I did over our Winter is drive from Brisbane to rural Victoria (over 1,000 miles), do a meditation retreat for a week, then drive back.  Both drives were through inland Australia, checking out all the little country towns along the way. And the retreat was fantastic (although it was absolutely freezing...)

And, if I'm allow two things.. finally finished the cat enclosure!

Good on you, calico2222, for taking on that challenge and coming out the other end of it!

My Mom and I took my kiddos to visit family out of state.  It was half for a baby shower for a family member and half so the family could meet our own newest addition.  Part of me is so ready for fall; but part of me feels like summer should be just beginning!

Nothing much at all. I've had no vacation thus far and, the way things are going, I don't see any time away in the immediate future either. Rick is going to Oregon in a couple of weeks, but that's more for work than anything else. We have to close the pool before he goes and start clipping down in the flowerbeds. We've been so busy with other things this summer that we've ignored the flowerbeds and they're looking scraggly. What's left of the garden has to be torn out, too, so we're going to be busy.

Congrats on your expansion, Calico2222. If you have pictures of the redo, I'd love to see them. Maybe you could visit us here in PA to help with our kitchen remodel!

This has been a "stay home" summer. We thought about going away for a week, but decided not to risk it, because Jamie's health hasn't been too good. Basically we've just done stuff around the house and yard.

Most memorable thing- I guess it had to be hosing 20 people for a graduation party for dd.  I don't think we've ever had that many people in our house at one time
Thank goodness it was a nice day (little windy) because I don't have a very big house to begin with.  It was fun- we had family here for about a week, and my kids got to see their cousins.

Can I say more than one- I guess the 2nd most memorable thing was taking dd off to college.  And so far so good.  She did call here last week saying "Mom, can you send me a care package"
I do need to get that in the mail.  We're going to see her (school is a 3.5 hour drive one way) in a few weeks for parent's weekend, though I don't think we're going to stay the whole time.

And the 3rd thing we did- went to the inlaws.  Yay.  Nobody really wanted to go.  The inlaws don't want to do a lot- we kind of spent most of the 5 days we were there sitting around watching the olympics.  Oh boy.  Went there b/c there was a wedding 2 hours away that we needed to go to. It was fun.  My kids though would have rather done something else.  But, MIL would have been hurt if we didn't go, we weren't really planning anything else so we went.  And, with dd in college now, who knows if she's even going to be able to attend the next wedding/ "life event" that happens on that side of the family?

We always sent care packages to our DS when he was in college. He played football and we always went to the games, so he always got a package every Saturday during football season. I just took it with me to the game and gave it to him afterwards......I baked several kinds of cookies and such for him and his dorm mate. Sometimes, the football team got to the package first and that got a little ugly. I got to the point where his Saturday package was quite a bit larger; that way, everybody got something.

But we also mailed a package down to him, pretty much about every other week or so, especially once football season was over and we didn't get there every week. My parents and Rick's parents would include a little something as well. But DS was a lot like his father when it came to cookies and other baked goods.....send as much as I can!!
