How Expensive Should This Be?

If Mohave Bob is to be an indoor kitten/cat there was no need for the Feline Leukemia vaccine at all. And he still hasn't had his rabies? Geeeeeesh. Once you get the neuter done I hope you can find a nice close vet that, while they want to make a living (who doesn't?) they aren't out to shaft you for every penny they can get.

Congratulations on your new baby, he's precious.

PS How's that expensive paw? He probably just rubbed it raw in the carrier on the way to the vet. :lol3:

Uck, dont let them give him any more vaccines! This whole thing sounds rediculous! Get his rabies shot, neuter and then run for your life! (Or wallet :p )

Thank you Otto!  I actually had the same thought about the pet carrier, he hates car travel and basically spent the hour preceding his appointment howling, panting and scrabbling frantically.   IMHO both calisivirus and ringworm were really bonehead diagnoses, there was no clear suggestion of either, 'travel stress and a bad carrier', cost $0, would have made a lot more sense and been a lot healthier on the cat as well.  I actually feel for the staff of this office (with the exception of Madame Bonehead), it is clear to me that both the recording / paperwork confusion and the exorbitant costs are driven by the parent company, VCA.  I guess (well, I hope) it results in decent benefits for the staff, but three different employees including the vet I trust privately confided that they'd much rather work somewhere else.

- kattiekitty,  I came to the same conclusion about the antifungal and didn't give it to him after all that $$ nonsense.  He was both too little and not in my opinion showing enough signs of any infection to go to those lengths, I just wish I'd had some information resources available to me about it while I was sitting there in their freezing cold office being marketed into poverty.  (The office really is ridiculously cold and the staff isn't allowed to touch the thermostat.  I wonder if it's been proven that the more uncomfortable you make people who are over a barrel, the more money they spend  for the relief of leaving.)

and he has a stumpy little bobbed tail that wags almost like a dog's, it's this little beige flag waving over his butt.  I know I'm his mommy, but it's hard to imagine a cuter kitty.  Thank you Otto.  He's there now.

Sorry, I've been through this thread and can't find your cats breed. Is he a Mojave Bob or a Highland Lynx? Either way he's gorgeous!

Thank you to everyone for your nice compliments on my babies.Bob is the pear shaped cat at the top of my avatar.  Connor is getting neutered tomorrow and then with luck no one will need a vet for ages.  This is my favorite baby picture of  him.

I'm talking about this cat, not the Lynx Point colored cat in the first post. This cat is a pure-bred right?

Sorry to be so confusing.  Baby in the  basket picture (Connor) is a purebred highland lynx. The pointed kitty who was the focus of this post is a shelter kitty, probably not a purebred, but his name is Mojave Bob because we live on Mojave street.

Update:  Connor came through his neutering with flying colors and now neither one is ever going back there again.  Thank everyone for their kind wishes and support!

The Highland Lynx is absolutely stunning. I love the poly feet and wide legs. I almost bought one from a cattery in AL when I was looking for a kitten recently. I decided against it as another Lynx breeder told me a out this particular breeder's "issues". My primary concern was health problems had been an issue with their cats.

It worked out for the better, as I found an adorable DLH at a shelter that stole my heart;)

I've been waiting for Connor's pedigree paperwork for nearly three months with two gentle reminders and gotten nothing, so maybe my breeder has "issues" too.  The newer "exotic" breeds aren't recognized by some registries, so for all I know he's not really a purebred at all.  Don't really care, we should have called the little guy Jackpot - he's adorable, he's snuggly, he's friendly and playful even with strangers, has good eating habits, has had no health issues, is perfect but not ultra fussy about his litter box, likes to sleep under the blankets, doesn't really care about going outside, peeps and chirps but doesn't yowl, plays well with his brothers ... there isn't  a single bad thing to say about this cat!  Love him to pieces.  While I was on the fence about getting a bred kitty, this little one is So Awesome, it was worth it.  :)

(Of course Bob is awesome too, poor little guy always seems to get 'honorable mention' but he's a sweetie pie and my special boy.)

Just one more update, I got a bill for $104 from the vet yesterday for bloodwork that was supposed to be included for free in the $350 kitten package (which did not, btw, include the extra $150 to neuter him).  Can you say, "what a surprise"?   Can you say, a little louder, " NOT IF THEY WERE DYING?"  Ahem.

He looks like a pure-bred Highland Lynx to me. I did read bad reviews about a breeder in FL. The reviews said they were either really slow, or not providing papers at all. I can't remember the name of the place. I'm glad he has such a great personality. That's what I love about my new kitten. She reminds me of a cat I had when I was a boy. She was totally "bomb proof" and not scared of anything. Beans is the same way and a total love bug.

I kept changing vets--going on recommendations of friends--until I found one that worked for us.  I knew at the first visit to our current vet it was the right place.

Annual complete exam is $78 including rabies any all other routine vaccines.  Other exams through the year run $48.  This past year they offered a preventative care package for $165 which includes any exams and vaccines needed throughout the year.

Mojave Bob is just too cute!
