What temperature should I leave our central air on in our apartment for our kitten?

Me and my wife can't decide what to leave it on when we go to work, and we want to keep Clancy comfortable without paying a fortune in our electric bill. Is 80 in an apartment too hot for a kitten? Here is the beast in question...

Eeek, he is so cute!  80 degrees sounds reasonable to me, but hopefully others will chime in.  My kids' bedroom gets terrible circulation with our ac system and it will be mid 80's in there on hot days.  The cats will still rest in there.  Of course, they also have the option of going to a cooler spot in the house.  I would think if there are tile floors or other cool spots and plenty of fresh water he should be okay.

Thanks! We have been leaving it around 74 and 76 and sometimes when we get home his paws are cool for some reason, unusually so. I'd love to hear from others as well.

And I hate to promote this, but check out the thread I started posting videos of him (at the start it links to another thread of my story of how we came to get him along with more pictures...

Thanks in advance to others!

We keep our A/C at 78 during the day and 76 when we sleep. We never really change it when we go out and I feel like our electric bill is pretty reasonable.

I don't leave the a/c on, and rarely use it when home. I live in a hot climate and the cats are just fine, likewise in winter the heat isn't on often.

I keep it around 80 during the day and 75 at night in the summer.  In the winter I set it at 65 and if it gets below 40 outside, I use the woodstove.

LoL I must have polar ice kitties. I keep my AC at 68 when I am home during the day and 72 when we are gone. Anything warmer than that and I notice them all laying stretched out on the tile floor or around the water bubbler we have for them. Even the dog acts hot if I raise the temp a little.

Most cats prefer it a little warm. I keep mine at 76 when I'm not there, I used to keep it at 80 but the humidity made it way too damp in the house and mold problems were starting so I have to keep it lower. If it were more dry around here I think 80 or 82 would be fine. As it is, my kitties like to go upstairs (much warmer up there--it's an old house with a terrible HVAC system) and sleep in a sunny window anyway!

Mine will lay out on the back porch in the sun when it is 100 out there

Like txcatmom, my one bedroom condo has terribly air conditioning (duct system problem).  On hot, humid days, even with the ac on all day, the temperature will rarely go below 85.  Ritz is comfortable (i.e., doesn't show any sign of distress) at that temperature; 90+, it's not good.  In the early morning, the temperature is a more reasonable 75.  I live on the top floor, high ceilings.  Washington, DC area.

Luckily, the temperature is slighty cooler in the bedroom (separate duct system), so she can go in there if she chooses.

80 would be far too hot for me!  I couldn't sleep in 75 either.

If you need heating to reach 80 then turn the thermostat down.  You cat will be fine from 65 upwards.

We leave our home at 77 or 78 during the day and turn it down to 76 at night.  We have an enclosed sun room with windows, no AC or heat and the kitties LOVE to lay out there when it's 100º+ outside.  We make them come inside and close the cat door when it's so hot because we don't want them to overheat
