She is doing so much better every day!
She is growing more confident and secure, too, I believe.  She still has her moments of flashbacks I guess, but for the most part, she is becoming more confident and happy with herself.  She is learning "no" means I am not pleased and to stop what she is doing and "here kitty, kitty" means good things for her.  She responds to her name, too.  She is a little piggy and eats like there is no tomorrow every dinner time and breakfast ,too.  I am sure she's never had such good food!

She plays with King Arthur and is learning all about toys.  She loves balls! I have a zig zag ball that she just adores and is always playing with.  She is afraid of birds, too!  Haha!!  She loves baths and grooming.  She scratches with her back feet so she's aware it's the only claws she has.  She can scratch and kick pretty hard!!  When she wants attention, she copied King Arthurs method, she stands on her hind legs, puts her front paws on my knee and waves a paw at me to say "pet me"... If she wants treats, she is learning to use her voice and will meow for them now!  She has her bad moments but they are fewer and less frequent now.

She came through spaying just fine.  I am letting friends come over to meet and play with her to socialize her more hopefully.  So far, she is still too scared and unsure and only trusts just me.  I thought she might have a heart attack at the vets when I dropped her off for spaying.  she freaked when she realized I was leaving her there.  I felt so bad.  They said she had a minor freak out when I picked her up and they went to take her out of her recovery cage.  They are certain she has abuse in her past, as well now, too.

Anyway, I still keep having friends come over hoping she'll get over her fear.  She runs and hides but she hides where she can watch with curiosity as they play with the girls and King Arthur.  She is on her way to being a very happy and secure girl that anyone will be very lucky to have as their furbaby!  I am so proud of her!!

I am trying not to stress her out too much during this time as she recovers from her spaying surgery.  So I keep the excitment to a minimum.... And she is terrified of the camera flash!!  I only got the one good pic of her on the original post about this earlier... I think that was the 1st time she had ever encountered a camera?  She sees it now and she hides!  In good time, I'll get some more....

Poor thing was de-clawed and not spayed?!?!? I wish vets wouldn't do that. . .well of course I wish they wouldn't do de-claws at all but there is absolutely NO justification for de-clawing an unspayed/unneutered cat. Nothing sadder than a de-clawed cat that's been dumped trying to provide for her kittens or having to fight the other tomcats.

Glad to hear she's doing so well!

Doc A said that his suspicions that she had been used for multiple breedings were confirmed upon spaying.  Lots of scar tissue so he thinks she was front declawed to keep her from scratching up the toms during mating?  I mean, not to put her down, as she is stunning or she will be once she's back to 110%... But she is not a breeder standard cat so whoever bred her was a BYB and had no clue what they were doing and just doing it for money.  :(  I agree, it's very sad.

I saw her outside for a couple of days and I got her to come to me as I couldn't let my horrible neighbor get her.

PS... She also has several, well lots, of calcified areas on her bones to suggest healed fractures from possible kicking, throwing or hitting. So we think she was abused.  I was pretty sure of it but it broke my heart to hear him say so when I picked her up after her spay.

I don't think female cats scratch the males with their front claws during mating? I never thought the wounds a feral tomcat has were caused by the females! :lol3: I know a lot of BYBs here do de-claw their breeding cats, but mainly to protect their furniture (which you gotta wonder about, since intact cats do all kinds of unpleasant marking. If pee isn't a big deal, why is scratching?). But, yeah, obviously a scumbag BYB.

I guess a vet can tell if she's had a lot of litters when they look at the uterus during a spay. When we had Sonja spayed, the vet said she had had "truckloads of kittens", and her lady bits were so scarred they were beginning to grow together, and another litter would have killed her. But she was a trailer park stray, so it wasn't done to her on purpose like poor Melinda. How maddening that somene would do that!

He couldn't tell how many litters she had but just said that she'd been used for at least multiple breedings based on the scarring.  It's amazing she is as sweet as she is.  She is proving to be resilient, too.  I think in another month or so, I can possibly look into forever homes for her.  I have a couple of friends who are very interested in her.  So I am hoping she takes to one of them.

Thank you!  She is purring with delight that you find her so pretty!  Here's another picture I got this afternoon... No flash so you can see her pretty eyes!
