A long haired tabby decided we are her new home. Only problem is, she hates my mom's cats. I mean, she can't walk by them without turning into a Tasmanian Devil. Hiss, hiss, growl, growl. Last week she had 7 kittens, 5 survived. I am keeping one, three of my friends are each taking one, so that leaves mama and one kitten.

What would be the best why to find her and the kitten a good home? I've spoken to a rescue and they want to take the kittens and mama at six weeks, fix them, give them shots for $$$. I just think that's too early (for the fixing and leaving mama). I will spay her before I find her a new home. The amount they wanted would be more then the cost of a normal spay at my vets, just to get her fixed.

I want to make sure she gets the best home possible, I don't want her to end up at a rescue that is little more then a pet warehouse. I've seen those before, the ones that no matter how much experience, references, etc you have, they will find a reason not to let you adopt.

Her name is Jazz and she would be perfect in an only cat household.

Welcome to TCS!!! And thank you for rescuing this pretty kitty, Jazz. The kittens can be spayed at two pounds. SO it should not go by age but by weight. Any vet will know this. Make sure whoever you give the kittens to, that they get them spayed and neutered. Very important to specify this. You could try to place an ad on Petfinder for Jazz. Go to your local vet's and groomer's and post flyers and pictures of her. I am sure someone will fall in love with her. It is possible that she will do fine with another easy-going kitty. She is just feeling overwhelmed in this new environment PLUS she did just have kittens and will protect them fiercely  So a little hissing/growling would be expected IMO. Don't rule out that she has to be an only cat. Very possible once she is spayed, she will calm and become kitty friendly!!!!! Good luck !!!!!!!!!!! :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

We might end up keeping Jazz.
My mom is  a cataholic. She will be spayed though, we don't need more kitties. I live in a rural area with a huge feral/stray/wandering cat problem.

Oh that is wonderful to hear . Yes, once she is spayed, I think she will become a different kitty. OH so sad to hear about so many feral cats in your area. :sniffle: I wonder if you have a TNR organization you could notify of the overpopulation :dk: They might be able to help with trapping cats and sterilizations. :cross: Keep us posted on Jazz !!!! :vibes::vibes::vibes:

We do have organizations that do TNR, its just they require you to take a special class before they allow you to have the traps. My mom has some mental issues and refuses to take them, the class is also in a different town. When I get my liscense, I will probably go.

Here's a pic of Jazz and brood:

She's in the walk-in shower in our spare bedroom, in a cozy nest of towels and blankets.

She is just gorgeous  OH look at the little ones. Again, wonderful what you are doing. Mega vibes for those other cats in the hopes that you can help them all get sterilized. The class is a good idea  WIll help people understand exactly what to do and be prepared ahead of time when you start trapping cats. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

I just want to say thank you for looking after this girl and her babies. Last summer was my time; a feral 'kitten' mama that was not tame. She was, however, smart. She moved her 5 babies to my front porch. The short story is 4 survived; two went to my brother who has given them a terrific home, and mamma and two babies are with me and my gang. All spayed now, and all are now tame. The former 'wild' mama is sleeping on my rocker as I write.

Is there a spay and neuter clinic that is a non-profit in your area? We have 'Spay Oklahoma' here in Tulsa, and they had run a special: spay and neuter a mama and four kittens for #80.00. Plus shots.

I'm going to have to read those links in the above post. There is one female that is now about two years old that I've not been successful in taming. I'm going to have to trap her and get her spayed. I've never done that. I do feed her twice a day.

More on how I acquired so many cats over the last year and a half on an appropriate thread.

Good luck!
