Farewell, Ashley Furniture Canyon Big Bomber...you served us well for 10 years...and twice served as a litter box for Hobbes...and a vomitorium once for some other cat...

Seriously, it's been a tad smelly for years now--I really think it was the vinegar/water I used to clean up a few cat messes down inside the base/lower arm.  I also stained it with the water on the armrests.  You only get a whiff when it's really humid out, then it goes away--but I couldn't stand it anymore. Febreez never did any good.  It's more of a musty odor, not a cat pee one.

Our pc died last week, just as I was getting ready to buy a new sofa, so I thought I couldn't....but...the sectional at Big Lots we liked really would dominate the living room, so scratch that (I'm sure the cats would've!).  I tried out a normal sofa there; I rather liked it, and it was only $350, but seemed a bit narrow when I laid on it.  We sometimes put up guests on the sofa, and may have to next month, so that's important.  I found some extra cash I forgot about, plus eBay has Bill me later (6 months/no interest), so here it is (it's really an Ashley sofa, not "Famous Maker") It's as close as we can get to the Big Bomber!

I don't think the price was too bad, plus free shipping.

They have a reclining sofa, but I didn't want to spend that much.  Besides, the vertical puckered stitching on the back pillows reminds me of Mom's hysterctomy scar--really!  I'd think of that every day, if I bought it! LOL And the pillows with the button tufting remind me of navels!

I plan to make quilted nylon throws to put over the back and armrests, with clear vinyl under them (I think Velcro will have to be involved somewhere). I like slippery nylon fabric--the cat hair doesn't cling to it. You should see how it clings to faux suede. I know. That's why my cats get cheap nylon sleeping bags to lay on. Ugly, but they work on the furniture, and the cats love 'em.

That's the same couch I have. It's so comfortable, I tend to fall asleep every time I lay on it. The cushions tend to slip off, they need some extra velcro under them. I have the matching chair too. It cleans soooo easily. My dogs drool on it all the time and you would never know by looking at it.

This is my next purchase to match. I talked to the manager of the Ashley store last week and he said that the "mocha" in this would match within 1 shade. http://www.ashleyfurniture.com/Show...yle=&PageNumber=1&IsClicked=1&CatPageNumber=2

I'm so glad you told me! I feel better about buying it sight unseen online! The cushions slipping thing seems to be an Ashley thing, too. My Big Bomber Canyon (or whatever it's called) has the same problem, even though it has big Velcro strips on the cushions. That's the only thing I hated about it. I'd have to push in the cushions every time I got up and then sat down.  Maybe we could get stick-on BIG Velcro strips, and add a few?

We have to push the cushions in a lot. I keep meaning to buy some Velcro to see if it helps, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Very nice looking sofa! I like the fact that the seat cushions are all the same so they can easily be rotated. My last couch and love seat had the type of end cushions that fit around the front of the arms, so it made it difficult to rotate them to prevent wear, plus it was difficult to adjust the covering of the cushion when it shifted.

The couch and chair I recently bought is leather.  I'm so tired of vacuuming furniture, that I decided to go with all leather so I can just wipe it down. I think it will be much more "bad back" friendly.

The coffee table in the other link is lovely. I like the ottomans tucked under.  However, I think it would be a bear to keep clean because of all of the crossed over wood and angles.  I went with more clean lines without a lot of crevices. Again because of the cleaning aspect,  lol

Thank you!  You know, I didn't even notice the cushion thing. Our old sofa has the t-cushions. I wish I could have leather, but my cats would claw it to bits. I've had vinyl, and they destroyed it in short order.

I'm getting to the point where making cleaning easy is a priority. I've been getting rid of things I really don't need or are a pain to maintain--except for the cats, that is!

I'm getting rid of clutter too! I've always like the showroom look which is very clutter free and makes for easy cleaning. However, my last apartment started to get cramped and became a bear to clean because every wall as occupied.

I'm fortunate that my cats don't scratch furniture.  I keep their nails cut short so that they don't hurt each other if they swipe, and they don't get their nails caught up and twisted in blankets or carpet. Spencer and Abby tolerate nail cutting very well. They don't necessarily like it, but they lay there and take it!  LOL  On the other hand Katie isn't very fond of it at all, but she is beginning to learn that it isn't going to stop no matter how much she wiggles and meows. So the last 2 times I cut her nails it was a bit easier.
