Bruda had kittens 8 days ago and seems like she is already in heat?

Last night she jumped out of my window in the middle of the night (i live on the second story of an apartment building) and i didn't find her until the next morning when she was crying at the door. She is leaving the babes alone for longer periods of time now and is acting like she is in heat, trying VERY actively to get outside, she is calling in an extremely high voice, and i have to constantly remind her it seems that she has babes that need taking care of. Is this normal? I got her when she was 4 months old (i believe she was a stray) and now if my guessing was correct she is now 1 1/2 years old. I set an appointment for her to get spayed, but I'm worried she might get pregnant before the date if she keeps finding ways to sneak out. Any advice?

Yes, it's common for cats to go into heat 7-10 days after giving birth. Since she got out, she might have been mated already . But it's hard to know what to do because her babies still need to nurse. . .call your vet and ask them what can be done. They may have better options.

She is continuing to act like she wants to mate, in our apartment complex we really don't have any Tom cats, or many cats at all, so I don't think she has mated just yet, but if she is jumping out of windows just to mate, I'd hate to see what else she will do.

Ring your vet and discuss spaying her as soon as she stops calling.  It doesn't stop the milk once feeding is established and she won't be both trying to feed one litter and let another develop.

Very normal for girls in heat to ignore their babies, you may have to take over for her

I agree with getting her spayed asap, be careful about keeping her inside it's not just pregnancy but also diseases that are caught via mating or fighting

I am just worried that with getting her spayed and her nursing the kittens still it could cause her stitches from the spay to rip or tear open, or even get infected.

Should be fine with nursing, just monitor her, better than having another litter!!

I would rather her have another litter than he be in pain and risk getting a serious infection from the kittens getting feces in her wounds or something though, that's my dilemma.

Some cats have to have sections and they don't usually get the problems you are mentioning, plus you take away the small but real risk of a subsequent pregnancy and the undoubted pain of delivery.  Until they start on solid food they only open their bowels when she licks them, and she cleans it away - they can't get it on her wound.

In the UK a spay is usually done via the flank as well, which is well away from the nipples.  I have no idea what is normal in your part of the US - since you don't say where you are from I presume it's somewhere there.

I'm from California sorry! And I thought they spayed right in the middle of their abdomen here? I could be wrong, this is my first cat that I have had to spay so I'm, not sure. That's why I'm so nervous! lol

I had a cat have an emergency c-section before. Her kittens were able to stay with her and she healed just fine. They used internal dissolvable sutures and skin glue so there was nothing for the kittens to rip.

Incision site is usually not that large, it should be fine.  It is much better to do when the babies are small than to wait until they are bigger and more likely to cause damage when nursing.

That sounds awesome thanks so much!! I will see if my vet can get her in sooner. I live in a very small town with only one vets office so I'm not sure if they can, but I will try.
