No, please don't say it's hopeless.

Is there a Humane Society, SPCA, or ANY rescue group around there?

I will send you a link for another place that pays vet bills, but in his case, this is very urgent, so I'm not sure how to go about contacting them to get a fast answer.

I will get back on this.

Not to be Debbie Downer here, but if his bladder is that enlarged and he can't urinate you're going to be looking at uremic poisoning soon.  It's a horrid nasty nasty evil way to die.  My grandfather essentially commited suicide after my grandmother's terminal cancer diagnosis.  He had an enlarged prostate and stopped his meds so he couldn't urinate.  It took less than a week and he was yellow, stinky, incoherent and had a 105 fever when they found him unconsious in the house.  He died less than 12 hours later.

Please, please, please get your little one help.

When he is in the litter box, does he pee a lot or does it seem like not much comes out?

Okay, here's a couple of organizations to contact-

FACE4PETS.ORG  This is emergency help for people who don't have the money.

[email protected] This is United Animal Nation, they will pay your vet bill as well.

NEVER say it's hopeless!!

He doesn't pee at all. He can't make it to the litter box. He can't poop. He is barely breathing now. He is laying down on a sheet I have under him. He doesn't have much time left I can tell. I'm bawling right now. Everyone around here seems so heartless. (Referring to my local area.)

You're working with a very short time now. He's critical.

If you can't get him to the vet, wrap him in a warm blanket and keep him close.  Make sure that he knows just how much you love him and give him permission to go to the Bridge.

Would anyone be willing to throw in maybe $10 each to get the cat to a vet?

Life Lan failed when I emailed them. The other won't even let me apply until I get him to a vet to see if it is life threatening and then get prices done.

Please, please do Something! Call your vet and in the answering machine will be the number for the nearest emergency vet. Get a neighbor, anyone, anyone to take you there..... When you get there, surrender your cat - hand it to them, even if it is to put him to sleep - give them a check for tomorrow....
But PLEASE - do not let him just die a horrible slow death. His suffering started two weeks ago.... For two weeks this kitty has been going through horrible pain.....
Please, please! do something for him.... don't let him suffer so much!! :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Yes, if you can get him to the after hours clinic, please do asap.

Tell them that UAN will pay but there's no time to wait, at least get his bladder syringed, then they can deal with faxing UAN the info and estimated cost.

They really will pay. The vet MUST be somewhat familiar with this org, or at the very least, see what your cat is going through.

I went to your homepage in the slight chance you were in California...I could get you help here, but Missouri...

Please try, it's not too late, get the gas money from someone and take him to the all night place you mentioned.

I'm so sad for you and your cat....

Here's an update on Merlin.

He's currently at Anderson Animal Hospital, located in Anderson, MO. He was initially fairly unresponsive, hypothermic, and breathing heavy, etc. They catheterized him, got him on IV fluids, and did some bloodwork. His levels are off the chart from what I gathered. Initially they gave him a 5% chance, but that has definitely gone up. The vet was astonished by how well he is responding. They said that people can call in and make donations, so if anyone would like to donate, that would be great. You can call in the morning and ask to talk to Stormy. Merlin will give a better update when she gets home.

Well, we are home from the Vet. Merlin was lifting his head when he heard mine and my husband's voices. They drained 60 cc's of urine from his bladder. The Vet. said that he was amazed at how easily it was to drain it and insert a catheter. They have him on iv fluids right now and they will run more tests on him. His potassium levels are high along with other high levels of crazy words the vet confused me with. But I believe he has a fighting chance. The Vet said that when he lifted his head the way he did it raised his chance up one and a half percent lol. I will go for that. The higher it goes the better. I am so very thankful for Alexis helping me out and for those that want to continue to help him out I greatly greatly greatly appreciate it. I was very close to just putting him down, mainly because I was afraid that I wouldn't have the money to help him out. But Alexis got the ball rolling and now we are running a race. I have faith in my precious Merlin and I am going to stay confident that he will survive. My husband faced death in a very similar way. He was showing symptoms of being a diabetic but we didn't have health insurance. He ended up in the emergency room with a blood sugar of 800. The doctors didn't know how he was still walking. Like Merlin, my husband's potassium level was high and threatening his heart. Sorry for the small sob story but I just wanted to share that with you all. Thanks for the help!

I am so relieved, this thread had me very upset and preoccupied.

Nobody, I mean nobody should have to see their beloved pet suffer with no help because of lack of funds!

As I said before, it is NEVER hopeless. I hope you believe that more now.

May Merlin pull through this and be his young self again, he has so much more of life to live.

alexisanb, you're a true saint!

I will call and make a small donation to the Hospital in the am.

Perhaps in the future, it would be a good thing to do some digging and research his food,  it may have happened from a dry only diet, I don't know what you feed him, but just a guess at this point, as there are ways to feed him that will reduce the chance of him/and you ever dealing with this again. Nobody's fault, majority of people have no idea about this. If he was on a dry only diet, you can lessen his chances of this recurring by just adding some canned to his diet.

Just my two cents :)

As you can hear by what I write here, I have a very strong feeling he will recover.

Please keep us all filled in often, I will be checking in and thinking of you 3.

I am going to go try to see him tomorrow. I am def. calling to check up on him. The vet. said if ( I say when) he pulls through this...he will have to be put on a special diet. I am pretty upset that the food we had him on probably caused this in the first place. By by dry cat food! I'm going to put my kitten on the same diet that Merlin will be put on. So that way he won't ever have to go through the same thing. Not even going to take the risk. And I appreciate your help too Catwoman!

I would definitely go in person, I firmly believe he needs to hear your voice and feel you touch him. Love is very strong.

Merlin92, I really hope makes a full recover.... I also hope that he never goes through this again, ever....:vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
I am not sure how in depth your conversation with the e-vet was.... so I feel more than just vibes and good wishes, I had to say something here for his future, as these problems so often reoccur....

Please try to see what happened to him - what blocked him - was it crystals? Kidney stones? If crystals, oxalate? Struvite? It is very important that you know this information so you can prevent this in the future the best way you can..... It can be done with x-rays, a culture and urinalysis....
Yes, he will have to be in a special diet, or in the very least on a all wet diet.... Probably due to the severity of his case this vet will put him on a prescription diet. Please make sure he eats nothing but that for a very long while.... Afterwards you can change him for another wet, with your vet's assistance, or better yet, raw....
Also, one very important thing you have to know, is that male cats can die very quickly from this - you and him were incredibly fortunate. A blockage can kill a kitty in 24-48 hours. He started showing symptoms 2 weeks ago.... If this happens again, he might not be so lucky.
As a rule of thumb, if the kitty is jumping in and out of the box, peeing blood, peeing outside of the box, it is an emergency. A kitty who is not peeing makes it an immediate, life-threatening emergency.
Erratic behaviors, like sudden aggression, hissing, hiding, are all a sign of pain, and warrant a vet visit.
Your kitten doesn't need to go on a prescription diet - the ingredients are not the best (at all) and it serves only one purpose - preventing crystals/urinary issues.... but it will not be good for his health otherwise. The best thing to do for his health and future, is to put him in an all wet, low carbs diet.... The more species appropriate - the better - think meat, and forget the kibbles. He will be much better off....
Last but not least, I do understand times are hard.... God I so do! I have been there.... But know that things can be done, and for more than the situation looks helpless, there is help out there, and things can happen.....
Maybe you can put just a little bit aside every month for the kitties for emergency situations like these.... Or get health insurance for your kitties - get for the kitten now, and later for Merlin, when he is deemed cured from this, and it is no longer a pre-existing condition situation..... Just something to think about it, so you are covered....
For now, tons, tons of vibes for your little boy, for him to make a full recover, and thank you SO much for taking him to the vet.... :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Any port in a storm.....please get him to the SPCA!  You cannot let him suffer like this.  You have no family who could loan you a few dollars?  Nothing to sell?  But at this point it is beyond crucial.

I would just take him from vet to vet to vet.  Get him in a carrier...beg and plead...  cry.  Don't bother with an appointment.  Just go NOW!  Never mind  being online with us.  Take action.
