I adopted an older kitten yesterday. The best age guess is between 4-7 months. She is a bit jumpy(especially when she is eating) but is very loving and still very kitten playful. She purrs when you walk into the room, you don't even have to pet her. She is unused to dogs and growled and hissed at my older dog last night. Today I let him in again and she fluffed up and arched but that was all. He completely ignores her and acts like she's not even there. I'm going to use him to let her get used to dogs before I yet my young dog in. The young one is used to playing and(play)chasing cats so I think he will be a bit much for her right now. She has some scabs on her neck that needs to heal. If anyone has any suggestions on what to do(if anything) to speed up the healing please let me know. She needs a bath but that will have to wait until after all scabs heal. She runs around like  mad cat when playing but it is cute and she understands hissing(I use(d) hissing with all my cats to teach them what was not acceptable) and will stop or go easier at what she is doing. Her playing gets a bit rough and that's when I hiss to let her know it isn't okay and it hurts. She seems to be adjusting well, will keep you updated.

May sound crazy, but I apply virgin coconut oil to wounds (mine and the cats). It's proven anti-microbial, it seems to speed up heeling, it's not just non-toxic it's healthy if ingested.

Hi and welcome to TCS! :wavey:
That's great that you adopted a cat! The more the merrier.
Mmm, coconut oil sounds tasty. I didn't know it could be used that way.

Web sites abound touting the healing properties of coconut oil. But here's a real study, if you're interested:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20523108

Edit: I'll just add that I use it as a moisturizer and to treat areas of my body that get really irritated from shaving. It's great stuff (if you're not allergic/sensitive, of course.)

Another edit: I should say that there is no research, as far as I know, regarding cats and coconut oil (ingestion or topical use). So really, as far as I know, it could not be so good for them... but I look at it this way: I'd rather them lick this off their skin than something like neosporin or petroleum jelly (which vets actually recommend for hair balls and is the main ingredient in Petromalt).

I've seen no negative reactions to coconut oil (or coconut milk, btw) in my cats.
