I had a very long day at work today, there was so much to do, but thankfully we got it all done with an hour to spare. We were let off the extra hour because the store has to cut back, so whenever we're done what we're supposed to do, some of us are sent home. I volunteered today because I was exhausted, feel a cold or something coming on and because I'm back in at 6 am, even though I really should have stayed the extra hour money wise.

All I wanted to do when I got home was have dinner, watch a little bit of TV, check my email and websites, and then go to bed and read for a little bit.

Apparently, that's not what Leiki, Sadie and Fynn had in mind.

As I approached my apartment I could smell something "off" (I have a very sensitive sense of smell), but it was really faint so I just assumed that someone had burnt something and the smell was coming into the hall. When I got into my apartment, the smell was stronger and I realized it was coming from my unit. Immediately all I thought was, "OMG, I hope no one else could smell that out there". I thought that it might be the turtle's tank because it was coming time to clean it, walked over there - nope, not it at all. His tank was still pretty clean with no smell coming from it at all. Then I notice that Leiki had decided to use a bunch of boxes I had stacked as a jungle gym and in the process, knocked them all over right in front of the balcony door. I let my dogs use a Potty Patch on my balcony most of the time because it's easier for all of us, the boxes were blocking the way. I started cleaning them up and restacking them (in a much more stable way, incase she decided to do it again), still wondering where the smell was coming from. I checked the garbage, it wasn't coming from there - I had just emptied it this morning anyways. I remembered that Mike had stopped by to pick something up while I was at work and thought maybe he had used the bathroom and forgotten to flush. I started walking towards the bathroom, the smell was getting stronger and stronger. Checked in the bathroom, nope, nothing. My next thought was the kitty litter. I had cleaned it out last night, but she tends not to cover very well. As I approached the closet the smell was almost unbearable. I cleaned the litter, but there was no poop in it, just pee. I flipped the light on and then I saw it. My poor dogs. Leiki had knocked a bunch of treats off the shelf and into their crate, they ate them all. They had vomited and had diarrhea all over one end of their crate. Thankfully, their crate is big enough that they weren't sitting it in, but my poor babies were locked up with that awful smell for the last few hours! I stuck them out on the balcony and cleaned up the crate. Not exactly how I had invisioned my nice, relaxing night.

But it's not their fault, and I have to keep reminding myself of that. I shouldn't have left the boxes stacked like they were and I shouldn't have put the treats right over the crate because I know Leiki likes to climb on the shelves. I can't blame the dogs for gobbling down treats when they fell in there and I can't blame them for being sick right after.

They have been cuddle up to me on the couch for the past half hour, completely forgiving of the fact that I left them sitting in a smelly crate while I wandered around the apartment for 15 minutes. Tonight, they will cuddle up with me in bed and keep me warm, Leiki will join us after the dogs fall asleep and in the morning we will all have forgotten about the stress from the night before.

The few times that I get annoyed that I have to clean up puke, poop, pee, hairballs, fur, etc when I just want to relax are nothing compared to the unconditional love, support and hours of entertainment these little fuzzy beasts give me... but I really hope that they don't make a repeat performance tomorrow.

Awwwww, poor pups! I'm am awake right now because of my beloved Dog, Missy. She had an itch, fell over while scratching, into my bed, (she's 90 pounds) and woke me up, scared to death. My heart rate JUST went back to normal.

Funny how If my husband woke me up I'd wind up giving him what for. Missy, I just groaned then got up and took her out. LOL!!!!
