WOW- I had no idea about CS working for ringworm too :thud: THANK YOU, Laurie and Carolina - for telling all of us about this great product. Something else to order from Amazon now :lol2:

:vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes: For Monet - I think the CS will be very beneficial for him and might just cure him from whatever is going on with his ears :cross: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

I have a six month old rescue kitten (one of a litter of 4)  that suddenly started losing the hair on the back of both ears. Over the span of a week almost all hair was gone, and she had spots of hairloss on her upper back and the hair around her neck got very thin, but she did not have scabs or discharge. I thought it was ringworm. We went to the vet and had a bacteria culture and a fungus culture done.  He also examined her under a blue light and nothing showed.

So far the bacteria culture indicated a staph infection.  We are still waiting for the fungus culture since it takes 3 weeks,  We started Clavamox BID and it seems like the hair is starting to regrow on the ears. The other areas do not look  good.  So far, her siblings and another kitten we rescued do not show any signs of the infection.

Does anyone have any experience with feline staph infections?  This is getting very frustrating for us because we trapped these kittens, had them fixed, socialized them and they were almost ready to put up for adoption and now we have to wait until this is over.  I love them like my own, but they deserve a forever family and need a lot more attention than I can give them since I now have 8 cats and a very high maintenance dog.

Thanks for any thoughts you can share.

Staph (bacterial) as well as Ringworm(fungal) are easily transmitted not only from animal to animal but also animal to human.

In September of last year Maia developed a bald patch on her chest, I was freaked! It was about the size of her ear, the skin was thick, reddish, and totally bald. She visited our vet the next day and after a full physical, including the black light, he was pretty adamant that it was not Ringworm. He gave her a steroid shot and put her on antibiotics for a week while we waited for the fungal culture results. The area was definitely healing, but 8 days after culture, my vet called and Maia's fungal culture came back positive, it was Ringworm! So then she had 2 months of fungal topical treatment, and towards the end of this she developed a bacterial skin infection on her chin which I thought was the Ringworm spreading, wrong!

It is really important to follow through with all testing, keep them separated till results.....

sending
their way!

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Vegancatlady, I would definitely try the colloidal silver recommended in this thread. It is both antibacterial and anti-fungal, and it can't hurt.

It's been nearly 2 weeks since the hair loss and crusts. No word from the vet yet (early next week hopefully)

but going on day 3 on the Collodial Silver, and his ears are looking healthier already. not very crusty at all anymore (minor crusts) and skin is looking clean.

Good news.  I'm thinking maybe I should keep a bottle of that stuff around, just in case

The vet called a few mins ago. The culture shows no growth and is not a fungus of sort. The vet said if anything I had killed it when I was treating with lamisil and bleach. She will continue to give me weekly updates for the next 3 weeks to be sure.

Really a relief to know there's nothin on him and he's doing better.

Thanks again everyone for the support and advices!!

Glad to hear the CS is helping! I am also thankful to read this thread. I do alot of fostering and have had ringworm issues.

Be careful to wash YOUR hands regularly. It's pretty contagious!

I missed a few dosages as I was away for the weekend at my parents, but his ears are looking very well. Not 100%, but I think all that needs is his fur to grow back!

I think he's OK without the CS now, but I will keep an eye on him

Draco, I would not stop so soon..... I would continue for just a couple more days..... then stop.... just a couple more..... You just don't want to risk this thing to come back..... You want to make sure it is done and gone for good 100% before stopping....
AWESOME that you are having these results! :bigthumb: :clap::clap::vibes::vibes::vibes:
