Woke up to 34 degree temperate here in SW Florida.       Heat is on in the house and it's COLD!!!   I know people with mounds of snow on the ground can't sympathize, but I just had to complain!      We get this a couple of times a year -- there was frost on the roof of the house and on the tops of the cars.    We coverered out plants last night ----  don't know why I bother because I usually kill all my plants anyway.   I think I have a black thumb.   Does anyone have any suggestions for plants I can't kill?   I told my husband he's lucky he's still alive after all these years!

It was SEVEN here in the mountains of E. TN this morning.  It is up to a balmy 25 now.  I have not moved from in front of my wood stove all morning long.  Good thing I have a laptop.  haha

The only plant I have ever been able to raise (indoors albeit) and not kill, is the vine plant Pothos. http://www.plant-care.com/easy-care-pothos.html.

I take that back...outside, I have managed catnip (it is hardy as can be) and Lavendar (also hardy).  Not sure how those two do in extreme heat, though, because we don't get extreme temps here...low 90's is a 1-2 time a year thing.  Most summer temps are between 70 and 85 and they always drop to the low 60's at night.

Huh, so that's what that plant is! I have a couple too and they're doing well without needing much care.
We have a big patch of catnip in our yard that self-seeded itself, and has survived for several years now, growing bigger each time. It survives the long winters here in SW Ontario, so must be a hardy plant.

It's hovering around 0 here (30 F). Been a pretty mild winter so far.

WOW that is cold for Florida :cold:.. We have been very mild up here in the Chicago area - unusually so. AND no snow ..... YET!!!

Other than covering the plant's or bringing them inside if they are in pot's, not sure what else to suggest as to how to NOT kill them. I have a terrible green thumb :lol2: In fact, I don't have a green thumb at all  Hope the plant's survive the cold night's :cross:

Oh hush up, Lana!
  (I'm kidding! Honest!)
We were freezing to death the last couple of days.....lows at 9 degrees and highs only in the 20s.

Seriously, I saw on the news that they were worried about the orange crop in Florida because of the really cold temps. I hope it warms up soon.

Last night on TWC, they were talking about the fact that only 16% of the country has a snow cover....I think last year at this time, it was over 50% or something like that. And without a snow cover, our temps won't go way down and stay way down. Snow breeds cold and vice versa. So while we're in the freezer for a couple of days, it eventually starts to moderate again and we get back up into the 40s. I forget how many record high temperatures occurred in the US yesterday....it was well over 100. I know that we're scheduled for the mid 40s again this weekend. And I'll take it....I'm not complaining.

As for plants, get a pothos. Or a spider plant or two. I swear they are indestructible. And you can get lots of babies from spider plants. I can't keep plants at home; the cats think plants = lunch. I keep them here at work.

Yes we do have heat.  It's the reverse cycle with the heat and a/c.     The heat works great in our bedroom, but the living room/dining room/family room is all open with high ceilings so it doesn't heat up that much.   When you walk out of the bedroom you can feel the temperature drop.   Anyway, I won't complain.   It's getting warmer here now.  And from what I heard there wasn't all that much damage to the citrus crops.

Pam - if it's too cold up there don't forget our spare bedroom.   It's all ready.
