I saw an entire litter of baby Bangel kittens for sale. I was dying, I wanted one of them so badly. They were just precious. But, alas the price........$1200. I didn't have that much money, and didn't have enough on my credit card either. I'll tell you, if I'd have had that money I would have gotten myself a baby Bangel, today. I applied for a new credit card, if I get it, I'm off to the pet shop.

I also saw a Sphynx kitten. It was adorable as well. I didn't know if I would like a hairless cat that much, but that little thing was cute. No hair, and bat ears, plus almost tabby type of markings on it. I'm glad I prefer cats with hair, though, because they wanted $2800 for that one.

Also, there were some baby pups that were adorable. I just LOVE the pet store, especially when they let you pick up the babies and hold and play with them.

OMG Hope!

You can get a breeding bengal for less than that over here in NZ let alone a pet one and a spinx is only like $1000- what a rip off! Pet shops suck because once you see a cat you NEED it.

Pet shops over here sell PET persians without papers , NOT desexed for $700(ish) and you can get a pet persian with papers desexed for $300- from us

So what's the better deal? a kitten brought up in a loving home for a much smaller price with the extra stuff?

It pains me to think - Kittens sell for that much!

STOP! Never buy puppies or kittens from a pet shop. These babies are ripped from their mothers too young and the mothers are empregnated again and again.ups or kittens are forced to live in cages until they come to a home where they usually have no potty maners and are usually very ill from being packed in with other kitties. They are supplied by kitten and puppy mills.

Please buy from a breeder in your area for half the price and ten times the joy!

I don't know the situation over there but over here in NZ kittens are also taken from their mother very young and most pet shops have sick kittens but over here in NZ the cats are not supplied by pet mills but people wanting to make a little more extra cash for their pocket.

Can I emphasise the fact, CAT BREEDING is a hobby and we are NOT trying to make money!

I strongly suggest you don't get the kitten Hope- for one its a rip off and unless they can give you proof where the kitten came from then it could be BYB

These Bangels didn't come from a mill. I actually met the breeder, she owns the pet store, and these Bangels were really well socialized and friendly. I picked up 3 of them, and they all three started purring really loudly, and they were really laid back and well adjusted kittens. The lady who owns the shop, is a Bangel expert as well.

Actually, her prices weren't much different from what I've seen from the private home breeders around here. Most of the breeders around here are asking at least $1000 and some are asking almost $3000. So, I didn't think she was that bad on her prices, especially considering her store in in Bel Aire were all the movie stars shop.

The thing is, I can't afford one, unless I get that new credit card. I don't run around with $1000 of cash I can spend on things. I dream of getting one, though. I will shop around, but I haven't found any breeders in the L.A. area who are going to sell me a Bangel for less.

Okay.

I still think that's a disgusting price to sell a kitten for, she can't be selling them out of love for the breed but to make money she knows people will fall in love with them... it's a petshop trap. Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to put pet shops down but I have seen some disgusting ones and would never place one of their animals 1 foot in my door.

It would be lovely if you could adopt the one Heidi suggested.

Hope,
I got my Bengal from a breeder for less than half of what the Pet store wants. As far as I know you can get a pet quality kitten for around 500.00 or less. This is in the LA area.

I dont think I could ever pay that much money for a cat when there are so many adoptable ones in shelters that need homes.

I totally agree with you, Sicycat.
Why pay thousands or hundreds for a cat when there are so many out there looking for homes?

And why encourage people who breed cats. . . . (and dogs) for money?
It just doesn't seem ethical.

Hope, do you really want to create more debt? Credit cards can get you into big time trouble. Take it from me. Been there, done that.

I would think long and hard before I spent 1200 on a cat...I don't care what kind of cat it is. If you are an established breeder AND have that kind of money to spend, then that is one thing...but otherwise.......are you NUTS??????

There's a one year old bengal girl in a San Diego area shelter right now. She's described as affectionate and petite. More details in the S.O.S. forum!

I probably am boardering on being nutz when it comes to getting a Bengal. I want one so badly.

San Diego is quite a drive from Los Angeles, and I am someone who gets panic attacks driving on the freeway. It takes about 3 hours to get there and 3 or more hours to get back. I don't know if I could find someone to take me down there, and then it would be a real bummer if I went down there and the cat was gone. I wish they could have one locally that was in a shelter. There is a beautiful Bangel listed on Petfinders called Jumangi, and that lady is really particular about who she will allow to adopt him. She told me that if I hadn't had a Bengal before, then she didn't think I should do it. I explained that I have had Siamese cats all my life, and they are not exactly the most laid back of cats, but I love their unusual and somewhat demanding personalities. So, I have tried to get a Bengal from Rescue. If I could find one for $500 or less, I'd be thrilled, but this is Los Angeles, where everything costs more, because people will pay it.

Adopting the bengal girl from the shelter would be probably be less than $75. Well, plus the driving time to and from San Diego! If you really want a bengal, maybe you could call the shelter and get more information. Maybe they work with a rescue organization that could meet you half-way or even drive her to the L.A. area.

That's a thought also, harrythecat. I'll give them a call, and see if they can help me on that. Yes, I really want a Bengal. I have always loved the look of the wild cats, and Bengals do retain a lot of their wild cat characteristics. They are so beautiful.

I just don't understand why you are willing to spend $1000 on a cat from a pet store just because it's a Bengal, but you aren't willing to make a drive to get one that needs a home and 3 hours each way really isn't that long of a drive. At least if this is something you really want.
